Default '94 vs. '95 Taillights?

I've just confirmed with the Lexus dealer parts department that the '94 and '95 taillights are form and fit identical but there is a difference in the internal wiring. There is a Spec-D "Chrome" taillight assembly available for the '95-97 but not for earlier models. The "Chrome" model is the only one I have any interest in fitting on my '94 SC300. Does anybody know if the '95 taillight wiring can be modded to work on a '94? If so what are the details?

As far as I know all the taillights work on any SC, the only exception are 97 taillights on 94-94 SCs signalling too fast.

Default Not Useful

Although I appreciate anyone with knowledge taking the time to reply, a non-useful reply is a waste of time. As stated in the original posting the '94 and '95 taillights ARE NOT directly interchangeable. This is confirmed both by a Lexus dealer's parts department and the fact that the taillight manufacturer states that the model I like is for the '95-'97 models only, not compatible with other years. If anyone has actual info, e.g. a wiring diagram of the '95-'97 taillights (I have the shop manual for my '94 model), I would like to obtain a copy. I have emailed the taillight manufacturer but would be surprised if I received a reply regarding the electrical difference between '94's and '95's.

They're not identical no. Number of turn signal bulbs is different as well as brake light bulbs between 92-94, 95-96 and 97+. Like 87Cressida said use the search button before you say how useless our replies are. You're the one that needs help, do your research.

Smile Resolution

I have searched both this forum and other sources and have obtained enough info to resolve the tail light issue. As another poster pointed out, the difference between '92-'94 and '95> SC300 tail light assemblies is the number of bulbs, i.e the amount of current drawn when lit. The earlier models had more bulbs - more current draw. Substituting a '95 > assembly in the earlier models has a result similar to a burned out bulb, the blink rate increases (notifies the driver of the problem). This is referred to in the forum as "hyperblink". A number of sources relate to the mod of altering a capacitor in the blinker unit. A poster with in-depth knowledge of the blinker electronics circuitry advises against this mod as possibly causing the emergency blinkers to fail to work properly. Therefore I am ruling out this mod for my vehicle. The simplest mod is just to add a power resister in series with the flasher bulb. A kit is even available on eBay containing a set of two power resisters, with finned aluminum bodies and a mounting hole, of the correct resistance and wattage. I am going with that simple mod. The only negative comment I've seen about such a mod is that it is "inefficient". At the limit that is true but the tiny amount of power drawn by the resistor when the blinker is on, relative to the overall electrical system draw, is like a freckle on an elephants ***. I firmly believe in the KISS principle.
I am still involved in additional customization and upgrades on the vehicle, e.g. it was just completely repainted in white sparkle pearl. The 5-speed vehicle was customized some years ago with a "California" type body mods (removing all external badges). It has been lowered one inch and has an aftermarket turbo system (apx. 400 SAE hp equiv.). I am having the front seats and some custom hip bolsters, etc. reupholstered in the OEM color leather. It currently has a Brembo Big Brake Kit on the front and 18 X 8 BBS RSII chrome 16- spoke wheels all around. I am removing the Brembo kit and replacing all rotors with cross-drilled and slotted bright zinc plated OEM size rotors and stock calipers to be able to fit 20 X 8 Milanni 3-spoke wheels in polished chrome. The stock calipers will be covered with satin aluminum caliper covers. I may try to sell the Brembo kit and wheels on eBay but if not then I'll keep the wheels for mounting when I'm traveling long distance. I anticipate the ride will be even stiffer with the 20's and the car is already enough of a pig magnet that I don't need to add to the effect when traveling interstate. Those wheels uniquely complement the SC300 body and give a very 21st century look to the vehicle. In New Mexico the state only issues one license plate, which must be rear mounted, I have NM vanity license plate LEXUS. Not having a front plate greatly improves the appearance of the car (I formerly lived in CA, which issues two plates). I will post before and after pictures when the project is finished. Apologies to those who were offended by the new post on the taillight issue. The posts on the subject are very fragmented and time consuming to comb though. I thought the synopsis above would be helpful to newbies, like myself, to understand the problem.
