Default DIY: Stabilizing The Cup In The Flip-Out Cup Holder

I am sure most of your are aware of how flimsy the pull-out cup holder can be especially while driving. I usually keep the center cup holder lid closed and have a sticky pad to rest my ipod on. Now when I get a drink from a restaurant, either I have to move my ipod or utilize the pull-out cup holder. But that pull-out cup holder almost made me lose my soul when the cup dangerously tilted. So I have found a solution that decreases the chance of a spill by 50%!

What You Need
1. Binding Bars - Available at any office supply stores. You may find them in packs or you may have to buy a folder that has them. Usually $2 to $5)
2. Scissors/ Blade

What To Do
Cut the binding bar to size, should be roughly 2". Remove a tab from one side of the bar in the center so it can clear the cup holders front spine. The bar may be too tight and make it difficult to slip onto the cup holder, you can cut strips from the bars open end so it is slightly wider. But only cut enough so it is wide enough to give to open up and slip onto the cup holder AND enough that it grips the cup holder so it doesn't slip off. Then test fit!

Of course, there are other DIYs available to rid the cup holder and use it for other means. I will be seeing how to make it as a flip out phone/ipod mount and post a DIY here.

Thanks, I got tired of seeing the cup come close to tumbling. Howver, I have had large sweet tea tumble. Luckily enough, somehow the McDonalds cup hold quite well. Some drips out of the straw hole. As long as the top stays on.

I expected something really out there but that seems simple and effective.

Viewing issues? Too bad!!!!!!! j/k. I'll post the pictures up on flickr when I can. If I remember my info... I'm going to add more to this as well so I can stabilize the cup even more.

Yeah, I just got a girl in the pass seat to hold my drink. I realize for some of you this is not an option.

Lol if I have two cups and no one else in the car, or even if I don't want to use the center cup holder, I would just hold it in between my legs....

Wow, I like this idea! I know I've had a few scares from that damn thing, so I ultimately stopped using it. Gonna have to give this a try!
