Voltmeter directions say red to ignition black to -battery- How?
Hello,
(Sc400) Voltmeter installation instructions say red wire to ignition switch 12V+ and black wire to -battery terminal.
Please explain in the most basic terms how I accomplish this. Where is the best place to access those wires? Whats the correct way to splice in?
I will install it to the left of the steering wheel on that small padded panel or on the center console somewhere. Where do I connect the wires? (please assume zero prior knowledge)
Thanks in advance.

You will get the best answer in the Electronics forum of this website.
Thank you though.

ok its pretty much like this. When you think of the red wire or the 12volt +positive terminal think of it as the place you get power. It is where the power is generated but to properly use the power it needs to be grounded. Now, for the black wire or the 0volt -negative battery terminal think of it as the final place in which the voltage being generated needs to go to in order to complete the circuit.

Thank you for your reply.
I get that part, I just need to know where to connect the wires.

As for negative/black wire you can connect to any ground point including the one in the bottom left screw of the radio frame, or any exposed metal on the body of the car. You can also run a negative wire from the battery terminal.
As for positive, by ignition 12v+ I think the instructions meant a wire that gets power only when the car is powered on. Such as the radio ignition wire. For more info on connecting points in the radio area go to the DIY thread for installing aftermarket headunits.
EDIT: I just read where you'll install this. Well, in that area the only place I can think of that has an ignition 12v+ is the ignition switch ACC 12v+ wire, that or run a wire from the radio fuse in the kick panel.
