Default short in lights?

A friend was installing a set of after market hid's to his sc400
he accidently connect the + to - and vice versa to the ballast.
Afterwards the high beams would go on.
They stay on now, but are very very dim, same for the passenger side headlight (side he was going to attached the 1st set of hid's)

My guess is that the power that was supposed to go the passenger side head light is some how slpit between the headlight nad 2 hi beams.

I need to check the fuse, have't done that yet, it was too late today. But I'm kinda baffled as to why the high beams are turned on now (though they are very dim)
I mean if he just shorted out the passenger side head light, then only a fuse would have blown out, and why would that cause the hi beams to turn on. (though it does look pretty cool to have them on, and not blind oncoming cars)

Thanks
Ken

If the Highs are on with the Lows and the switch for the highs is not tripped. Then you melted the harness and the wires are shorting our together. Keep it off and unplug the battery till you find the short.

You may want to take an OHM meter, unplug the fuse, and then check for resistence between the postive+ feeds for the High and Low.

Best of luck

good news, it was just a blown fuse

a new fuse fixed everything, I've just never seen a blown fuse for a low beam trigger the hi beams to turn on... weird......

Hehehe thank god for the search I found this one today as I had the EXACT same problem Installing HID's and then suddenly the passenger side was dim and high beems where on but dim. If you don't mind does anyone know which fuse would control the passenger light and cause it to be dim and the high beams on ?

Hey Titan
Just look under the fuse box (black plastic one) behind the battery. There will be 2 headlight fuses. The under side of the fuse box cover will have a diaghram sayign which fuse is witch.
Or just pull out both, and You'll see one is burnt

3 min fix =)
