Default SC300 or SC400

I have been hanging out the forums for the past couple of weeks, looking at build threads and building upon my current knowledge of SC300 & SC400's. I already know I wan't an SC300 and I will be performing a 1JZ-GTE swap with an R154 transmission. But looking at a lot of different states on craigs list I am not seeing to many SC300's for a good price.

I have not been picky about it being and auto or how many miles the engine has on it because that is going to be changed. But the prices are kinda steep for my perspective, I wont be able to get the car for the next couple of months because I leave April 29th for Army Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. And then after that I will have AIT, but this gives me a chance to save up around $8,000 to get the car and get me started working on it.

I have noticed that there seem to be more SC400's available and at a cheaper price. I know that the engine and transmission is different between the SC300 and the SC400 but since ill be doing a 1JZ and R154 Swap I don't seen a cause for alarm. My question is there any other difference other than the transmission and engine in the SC300 & SC400.

Any information would be much appreciated.

Other than the engine and transmission, the only differences I know of is the badging.

Motor mounts may be different, but I don't know that for certain.
Body is the same
Interior is the same
Suspension is the same

It's basically the same body, just looks different throughout the years, either or should suffice, but i dont think 98+?

You could always buy a V8 and boost it with a centrifugal supercharger. Just pick up a fish bracket and you're in business. You could also swap an R154 on it.

But 1jz is a badass engine too.

+1 for: if youre replacing the engine/trans, then it doesnt matter if you get a 3 or 4.
but your 1st few months to a year in the military, you wont have much need for a vehicle so
youll have plenty of time to accumulate money and when you do your search again in a year,
something nice might be available at that time.

My first few months in basic and AIT will be saving of money + research + and shipping the parts I have already gathered to my first duty station. I get some Soarer parts pretty cheap here in Okinawa, Japan.

I pulled a 1JZ and a R154 transmission out of a chaser at one of the junk yards. And for research I am trying to find a SC300 or 400 that is to as close to stock as possible.
My MOS for the Army is a 91B Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic so I will learn even more things lol.
I will miss my R34 skyline here T-T to bad I can't bring it back with me but the money I get from it will go twords my car in the states.

i would buy what is the cheapest since you plan on swapping it anyways. id focus more on the interior of your choice more then anything.

My MOS is a 91B
And exactly I just want a good interior and not a majorly bad exterior. I don't care about the engine or transmission

I used to live in okinawa a few years back, it's a blast aint it? If you haven't checked it out yet Okinawa Bookoo always has cars/parts on there sometimes dirt cheap (used to see Recaro SRDs for like $100 each). Also there's a place called UPGARAGE (near the Gushikawa Jusco, イオン具志川ショッピングセンター, intersection of route 85 and 33). Sometimes you won't find anything for a soarer sometimes you'll find a ton of stuff always worth checking out.

Have fun out there!
