I have a 95 SC400 and the gas mileage is the crap. The range I get is around 16 to 18 miles per gallon ... 18 being all mainly freeway driven. It's a used car that I got at 92k miles and it has 99k on it now and I have done all the maintenance required but still manage to get really bad mileage. My dad has a 96 LS400 and they're the same engine pretty much yet he manages to get around 290-300 per tank or so in city and i'm barely hitting that on freeway.... any ideas why?

If you practice good driving habit, then you will get better milage. Some people on this board mentioned that they can get 23-26 mpg, I can't believe it. In mixed drivng, I get 19.6mpg, on all highway, I got 23.5mpg in which I think it's pretty good for V8 already.

What maintenance have you done? Are you an aggressive driver?
By all the maintenance I suppose you mean:
Recently changed plugs, caps, rotors
Oil change to synth blend or better
Transmission flush
Differential oil change

yea i've done all that maintenance, changed to iridium plugs, timing belt, oil, oil filter, everything... yet i still get the bad mileage... i've even driven as conservative as possible and best i ever got was da 18mpg... the car did have a problem with carbon build up in the engine when i first got it... could that be the problem again? cuz the dealership said they cleaned it out when they did the timing belt.

I agree that for a V-8 it's not that bad. I have a 94 SC-300. Last year I was having mileage problems. I took it to the Lexus Dealership and they "manually" cleaned my injectors. It helped a lot.

No not at all. You must be very careful using injector cleaners in a car that is eight years old. You could very easily stir some of the nasty sediment that sits at the bottom of the tank and clog up your injectors worse. What I meant by "manually" is that the service person or you intercepts the fuel line under the hood and injects the cleaner into line and passes through the fuel injectors. It is by far the best and safest way to clean your injectors, also the most expensive.

I have a '95 SC400 with 44,000 miles. I bought it in Sept. 2002 and have driven it 3720 miles of mixed driving and used 155.88 gallons of gas for an average of 23.86 MPG.
My best mileage on a tank was 27.1 MPG and the worst was 21.3 MPG since the weather has turned cold which does lower the mileage quite a bit.
I think this is pretty good for a car this size and with this much power.

I always say use some Chevron Techron fuel system cleaner concentrate. It may help a little after one tankful? I just calc'ed my MPG for the first time, since I got my 93 sc400 with 78K miles. On a tank used for about 90% highway miles, I got 25 MPG. I also had the Mobil 1 Synthetic oil in .... and 93 octane BP/Amaco gas.
