Question Paint Help

I bought an 300 that was left under a tree for 4 years. Needless to say it wasn't in the best condition. I'm slowly undoing the damage and one of the future steps I'm taking in getting rid of the rust on the roof. Is there someplace I can get the white paint for the car (a 95) or do I have to go to the dealership and pay their prices?

Any reputable paint place should sell what you need. I say PPG or Dupoint paint. Just to name a few of them.

Welcome to CL and those guys are right, you should be able to go to your local paint and body shop and get the paint. Any pics of this SC? Post some up when you get a chance?

Please don't take this the wrong way, but if you don't know where to get paint from, you probably should investigate having a professional provide an estimate for repair.

Painting isn't just something that happens, there is prep work and process to getting a nice finished product.

All right. Maybe I should rephrase the question. I know where to get paint for cars. I have touch up work to do and I'm not redoing the entire roof. What I'm looking for is a match for the existing paint. You can walk into any paint shop and get white but there are a couple of dozen shades of white. You can go to an auto parts store and even get Kia white, Honda white, Ford white etc. Of course no Lexus white. I was hoping there was a place online that sold the specific shade of white for the SC.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up! lol. You actually have several options: 1. Inside your door you might have your paint code, If it hasn't already been removed? 2. You could also go and have your current paint read with a paint meter? If all possible do your best to clean it up as best as you can? This will save you from "stacking" paint, etc. 3. Other option maybe-matte black the roof? Not sure if it's your thing or not? Just a suggestion. Either way keep us posted, and hopefully this works out for you?

Oh that's bad. Is that up against the windshield or rear glass?

Either way the proper way to repair this is to take the glass and rubber out. Get out your angle grinder and grind back to bare metal. Paint on a rust preventer like POR-15 to keep it from coming back. Add filler, sand, prime, paint. Then have the glass put back in.

I think you can do the prep work yourself and save some $$$$, but pulling the glass and the actual painting should be left to a professional with a spray booth and the proper glass pulling tools.

Thats not looking to good bud. Anyways use your vin number call a paint place like PPG, Sherwin williams...... anyways call them and ask. But if you want it to look nice take it to a shop and have it done. Panel painting is a thing of the past and thats what you willbe doing it will be really noticeable. This is not really a do it yourselfthing. Thats needs ground down, filled, iced, and primed and painted.

Maybe touch up was the wrong phrase to use. I know this isn't going to be a little job. Yes, my friend and I are going to be taking it all down to the bare metal. I'm just hoping that it dosen't go all the way through. It is by the windshield.
