Today I finally transferred the title to my name and took it to get an inspection. The guy told me that when the car got to a certain speed, smoke came from the under the hood and the diagnostics machine shut down (since it shut off, he wasn't able to tell me what it was exactly). He didn't show or tell me exactly where the smoke was coming from, but where it was coming from it is known to blow up possibly.

The car has been sitting for some time, but I start it 3-4 times a week and it seems fine idling, even when I drive it around every now and then it seems fine. I haven't got a chance to get it anywhere to see what the problem is. What could be causing smoke when the car gets to a certain speed?

Also, he said something about my exhaust. It has a rather rich smell when running.

My valve cover gaskets were leaking oil onto the manifold, causing smoke and that burnt oil smell when I stopped the car. I would start with that.
