Default What kind of tires ya got?

Its time for me to get new tires on my '98 SC 400. I'm wondering what everybody out there has, and your comments on the following 3 areas:

Treadwear
Noise
Ride Quality

I'm seriously considering Kumho ECSTA KH11s. They seem to be a good blend of price and performance, but there aren't any reviews up for it on tirerack.com yet.

i highly reccommend using BFG or michelin...they make some of the best tires out there....i have BFG g-force ta/kd but you dont need anything that expensive or high performance.....
seriously check them out......Jeff

NITTO 555 Extremes:

I like their tread pattern and handling when the tires are good, but once the inside wears down,...BEEEEEE-WARE!!! In the rain,.. you'll find the ditch real fast when these things are close to gone... but otherwise,... pretty awesome tire.... some people think they're noisy,... but they don't seem any noisier than any other low profile tire I've ever had ( BFG's, Michellin's, Pirelli's)

I think I'm about to downgrade to some Kuhmo's.... nitto's wear quickly IMO.

I run Firestone Firehawks- Awsome wet and dry traction plus the tires actually last 30,000 miles. Though they aren't cheap. Its by far the best tire I've ever had, and I've tried many.

KUMHO Ecsta 712 WR:

Treadwear: great for a while but then wears faster near the end
Road noise: very very little (Well actually I can't really hear any)
Ride quality: good
Traction: good
Wet traction: pretty good

But for half the price of other tires you wont feel bad tearing these up. I was surprised by the performance of these tires. They certainly handled better than my Pirellis or Falkens.

225/55R16s cost me $72 each
245/40R18s cost me $120 each

Keep in mind the Dunlop SP Sport FM901's, Yokohama AVS ES100's, and Kumho Escta Supra's are third tier performance tires.

That doesn't mean they are bad however! I used the Dunlop FM901's and they are great.

Road Noise: Good
Treadwear: Good enough for me... (200 Treadwear or roughly 20000km)
Ride Quality: Could be better (Bit wobbly at high speeds.
> 180kmh..
Traction: Good
Wet Traction: Good

I'm going to agree with Jeff on this. I've got BFG g-force T/A KD's and so far this has been my favorite tire by far. They have a ton of tread, hook up great on dry roads Can't really vouch for wet roads.
I've tried Yokohamas, they are VERY hard, and wear very quickly.

Kumho's, not too fond of the design, but a great tire for the price, good amount of tread as well.

Lastly, I had Dunlop's SP 9000's, they were also a GREAT tire on the supra, hooked up very well, and had a fairly quiet ride.

i have been on yokos...they were crap and wore FAST
toyos were ok but not close to bfg
dunlops were ok....
kuhmo just seems like what it is....a cheap tire
if you want quality and a tire that grips and lasts.....i reccommend BFG.....they do ALOT of testing for the perfect tire.....Jeff

what I have currently on my wheels

Bridgestone Potenza S-02 Pole Positions 245/35-19

Treadwear- ehhmmm 180? these suckaz wont last long
Noise- not quiet but better than the 19" P7000s i had before
Ride- hmmm not like ride is very good with any tire
Handling- amazing never driven them in the wet though

Sumitomo HTRZIIs 245/40-18

Treadwear- not bad at all these tires are lasting me a long time!!
Noise- not too noisy for an 18" tire
Ride- ehhmm better than 19s?
Handling- not as sticky as the S-02s but very good

Falkens 245/40-18s

Treadwear- not very good...
Noise- noisy
Ride- mmm not bad I guess but the tires follow every groove in the road its annoying
Handling- grip isnt bad, actually quite good

these are the tires i have currently- I would recommend Bridgestone and Yokohama- and for those who are budget minded- the HTRZ Sumitomos really arent bad for the money!

How about Michilin? Any of you use Michilin before? What's your comment on it? I think it is the best tire for all the tires I've used so far. I had used Good Year, Datona, Yokohoma and others that I don't remember... It is about time for me to change tires again, so I am seriously consider Michilin but I know price is steep then I can get it from cosco and it has insurance and reasonable price. What's your take?

Thanks!
