Just out of curiosity, has anyone tried to delete our old antenna with something a little bit more modern like the pic i put.
Reason is, i just picked up my 3rd SC and this is the first one where the radio works and JEEZUS i feel ridiculous when i'm listening to the radio and the antenna is FULLY ERECT!
Feels like it's 20 ft tall haha. So i want to know if anyone has swapped it out with a universal one or has retrofitted it from another car's.
Any ideas?

Didn't do that but when I had a "modern" head unit installed discovered that the antenna stayed up all the time due to only a single lead for it based solely on the key being on.
Since the new unit allowed for SD memory card, iPhone/iPod/iPad, and CD/DVD play I rarely listened to the radio but the mast was fully erect anyway.
Had the audio shop install a simple on/off switch so now the antenna is now up only when I am using the AM/FM (which is almost never except to check into a sporting score...).
A few folks here have "scalped" the antenna altogether when getting their cars repainted but few have shared what they did (if anything) for an antenna.
Hope you get some good ideas.....

There's a pretty big thread on it with most people choosing a slim antennae like shown in your pic, however when I wen't to buy the antennae it was no longer available. Mine looks like the rod on the back of the Delorean in Back 2 The Future...
Anyone finds a link to buy that one in the thread please post it!

I just shaved mine. I still get radio reception even after removing the entire antennae unit. I get all the major stations. I barely use radio anyways.

If I remember correctly aftermarket head units don't need antennas and you could still listen to the radio like that. Since I don't listen to the radio (plan on shaving this antenna) I pretty much hammered it down so it would be down all the way and disabled the motor for it to go up. If you go in your trunk and trace back to the harness behind the liner where your antenna is you can just unplug it and never worry about it going up

What is a radio station? I have never heard of this or an antenna! I only know ipod or mp3. Lol
My antenna hardly ever goes up any more after the new headunit. It stays down due to the ipod always connected. Just way too much talking in the mornings for me to even turn the radio on.

Shocked that the typical "search" speech didnt pop up.

well, search and you will find the answer(s).. Or, disconnect the antenna motor, manually fix antenna into a reasonable height, and voila, free short antenna mod.
