big bad furby

hey guys i am kind of worried. today i was driving around and my battery icon became illuminated on the screen. i did not really know what this meant other than my battery may be dying, so i turned off my lights and the cd player as well. but about fifteen minutes later my power steering failed and i could not get the windows to go down etc. i pulled over and shut it off, and fifteen minutes later the car started up again just fine. to be cautious i left it parked in front of my moms house, and got a ride home. curiously i just got a radar detector yesterday, and i had it plugged in throughout the day (until the light came on), could this have anything to do with my problem? or do you think i just need a new battery? oh and by the way the terminals are clean and are connected properly.....thanks....kevin

You may try charging the battery, checking the water, test the altenator charging, etc.

Hard to believe that a radar detector sucked your battery dry. It should not be pulling that kind of current. Chances are it is something simple. If you can, go to a Pep Boys and have them test your electrical system for you.
