Default New SC400 Owner, Need Help!!!

I am proud to say that I just purchased a 1992 Black SC400 in a really good condition, or so I thought. I love the new Lexus but the other night I ran into some problems. First the power breaking went out, could that be the master cylinder? It has enough brake fluid and seems to be pretty new. Also the engine has started to "lop" at idle. It drops to a really low RPM and doesnt sound to well. When I turn on the climate control, it causes the engine to idle higher and stop some of the lopping. I am hoping it's just a tunup problem but please give me some input ASAP. Thanks guys and my hats off to you!!

Jwitty,

HAHA.. "power breaking" Is that a pun?

Yeah, things with power may break...but when you hit that pedal in your car you are using the Brakes....

I would guess that your car needs a thorough tune up. The idle issue could be an electrical problem or the idle sensor. The brakes could be your master cylinder, your electrical system, or a leaking brake line.

I would test your battery etc and then if nothing sticks out...take it in.

How many miles do your have?

Im an idiot.

Last night we looked at the engine bay in the dark for anything that could look out of order. Well, today when I opened up the beast and had the engine going, I found that the vacum leading from the master cylinder to the engine block had come off because of a faulty hose clamp. Put a new one on and all of the problems went away. Thus, Im an idiot. Thanx for the input though. Hey what kind of fluids to you guys recomend for the SC400?

Oh and 127,000 miles

Jwitty,

That happen to other people here as well. I think one person hit a tree. So feel lucky that you didnt hit anything.

Someone suggested a hose clamp for it.

Did your idle fix as well?

Congrats and welcome to Lexus ownership. #1 on your to do list should be to check everything. Always assume when buying used that the previous owner did nothing to the car. Change all fluids, clean everything, and check all wear items.
