Correction: $2-3K gets a decent paint job. A "good" job should be $5K and up (you have to dismantle much of the exterior of the car to get everything painted properly, and the car should be clear coated and color-sanded when the paint is cured- VERY labor-intensive).
Just the Glasurit color + clear coat we used on my brother's AE86 Corolla GT-S was $700. It took me two days to take everything off of the car, two days to color-sand & buff it, and three days to reinstall everything... that's not including bodywork, prep, or paying the painter (he had the car for nine weeks). $2K won't get you very far: do it right, it's a Lexus
