I have full coverage and stated at the onset of my policy for this car what the market value is for it. My agent seemed satisfied with that and made copies of my major modifications for future reference.

A couple of you had mentioned appraised values. How does one go about that with a highly modified SC? Supra owners have this a bit easier since it's such a niche car already.

Just phone your agent or ins company and they have an appraiser come look, if they have that kind of policy. Not all insurance companies do this

I have full coverage EXCEPT the car itself due to the car being a rebuilt title already. Ill be talking with my insurance agent about how much exactly my car would be worth. Cool thing is im good friends with my insurance agent, he owned an R33 GTR which he just sold and I just installed his coils and wheels on his AP2 s2000 a month ago. He gets me good deals

I am think of calling back and have them add the full for around $200 a year

My last car I had the engine built up even tho I have the car back it would be nice to have a few bucks back
In my case I can't proof I was not at fault (witnesses left before i got out the car). Police deemed my fault

So now I don't drive with a I won't be at fault or I won't hit anything attitude or as much of it anyway

Full coverage with extra coverage for the cars investments beyond the Blue Book value (Work Wheels/system/kit/Coilovers).

I have full coverage with insurance on the 1jz, rims, sound system, suspension, pretty much everything. Since I'm in college and young I pay about 85 a month.

Let's say if I have full coverage and make a claim,

Do you think it is possible to prove the 5 speeds SCs are somewhat rare and get more $ than bluebook/whatever value they come up with?

This is the first thing I addressed with my insurance company BEFORE I bought my 5-speed. The first agent I got was clueless. I bought the car anyway and then went to another agent with the production data on 5-speeds vs SC300 autos and SC400's as well as private and dealer used sale ads that were current. All of those were in the $5k-$9k range. That was kept on file along with the production data. Additionally I listed ALL permanent (i.e.: no maintenance or t-belt/water pump service) modifications or additions to the car with copies of all my receipts and an index with dates for each change to the car.

That kind of thing helps when damage claims come up but that goes through an adjustor just like any other newer car. What I have not had confirmed to me is whether or not the insurance valuation of my car is actually higher than KBB *before* an adjustor is called in or if this is only something I can change with the aid of an appraiser.

This is where I find some other poster's comments to that end interesting.

It's cool to discuss the options with you guys.

I just added a $100 comprehensive deductable / $1000 collision..
$100 in case someone break my window, keyed the car / or windshield gets cracked, covers if the car is stolen and interior gets stripped, etc.

however I was told if someone hit and run in the parking lot it would be $1000 collision
But there is a collision waiver that if I'm not at fault, the $1000 deductable gets waived.

I was also told the comprehensive claims doesn't count against me, but I don't believe that.

Liability here, there is no reason to get a full coverage if youre not planning on hitting someone
about $15 a month and the rest stays in my pocket for mods

Picture you drive in the canyon at night
A deer jumps out and the hood crumbles
You don't have full coverage
Now you don't get a penny out of this incident just a paper weight at home.. plus All the towing fees etc

Would have been nice to have that car back plus a few thousands dollars to start shopping for another car
