Default destroyed RHS front caliper on my SC4 and upgrade to supra TT for $446.93

for a few days I was noticing slight degradation in braking. I went to my mechanic and when we took the right front wheel off we noticed some brake fluid stains. it seemed innocent enough so we decide to bleed it. I touched the nipple where the brakeline comes in and the backside was wet! We turned the wheel to all the way right and put a light to it and we noticed there was a crack at tha base of the nipple and fluid was comming out(very little but i'm sure when I pump the brake more would have been comming out). How could this have happened?

in any event, i decided to take this opportunity to upgrade to supra TT brakes. I hope the wheel will clear the caliper. I'll take some pictures if I can. Until then my car is at the shop fo 1 whole week. can't wait to try out the new brakes. wish me luck.

good catch on those brakes. that could of been dangerous.

The supra TT brakes will clear the with the rims you have, cause they will fit under 17" rims.

well good luck.

Kevin,

It is not only the wheel diameter (17") but also the caliper's clearance of the wheel face as well. If the wheels are not "high disk", they will not fit. The Supra TT caliber requires an extreme amount a of spacing from the rotor to the back of the wheel pattern.

I installed the supra brakes that Jeff had on my Soarer...

Installation is very straight foward. You have to modify the tin shield on the back as the rotor will hit it. What I did was used the gardener snips that are used to cut small branches and cut 1" slices all around the tin. Then i just folded them outward and that's it. Bolts right in.

so far so good. I have managed to get all the parts together. One thing. The guy who sold me the calipers told me that I may need caliper carriers........ what is this part? what does it look like? what the hell is it? can I used the one from my lex?

I guess since the Supra Turbo is a monoblock brake I wouldn't need a carrier... in any event. here is how I got my car a supra twin turbo big brake upgrade for $446.93

LHS Caliper $110.00
RHS Caliper $89.00
LHS Rotor $60.00
RHS Rotor $60.00
Front Cylinder Kit $16.97
Front Shim Kit $13.84
Front Fitting Fit Kit $10.28
LHS Brake Dust Cover $21.86
RHS Brake Dust Cover $21.86
Sumitomo Brake Pads $32.00
shipping $7.00
Caliper Pins x 4 $4.12

total $446.93

for those who live in NY area I can get you hooked up to this guy who would do the install for like 150 bucks. Its winter its cold so I'm having this guy do it. I have been very happy with his services so far(I had alot of stuff done by him in both my cars).

you don't need to buy caliper pins. I bought them just in case.. but they are supposed to be indestructable.

I got the rotors, calipers, and brake pads from http://www.toyotadiscountparts.com

and the rest of the stuff from http://www.bmaautoparts.com/.

at BMA if you order more than 100 bucks shipping is free.. I paid 7 bucks because my total was like 88 bucks.

of couse the calipers are re-man but better than paying more than that for used and comes with warranty.

they are in extremely limited quantity.

The reason why the LHS caliper was more expensive because it comes "loaded" with stock brake pads. so I will be throwing them out.

this is the cheapest way I found to upgrade the brakes.

I was quoted 400 bucks just to replace my OEM lexus SC400 caliper on ONE SIDE ONLY!

remember this is only OEM. Not TRD or EBC or anything like that. Those are alot alot alot more money. but I think I will be fine with these.

good luck for those who want to go this route.

One more thing. If you want to buy new calipers (don't know who makes them but supposed to be OEM. they are 251.81 @ BMA auto.

Dennis.
