Default Steering wheel question (ive searched)

Hey guys,

I know this issue has been discussed a lot and i have done tons of research on it and looked through all the DIY. Finally i found a steering wheel with an airbag that i can buy but i have a question.

The wheel/airbag i plan to get is from a 2001 RX300. I know the 2000 RX300 has a plug and play airbag if used with the harness connector. I am wondering if the same goes for the 2001 model. I dont want to spend $300 on something that wont work. If someone could confirm that a 2001 RX300 airbag is compatible with a 95 SC300 i would appreciate it.

I emailed the seller about a picture of the connector for the airbag and ill add that photo once he sends it over.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Dont know about compatibility, but $300 is a lot more than I would spend.
Shouldn't be too hard to find one from a junk yard, I found one off of a GS300 for like $150 with the airbag. It's the 3 spoke one I think just like the RX.
Airbag isn't compatible without an adaptor(I think) but I don't really care.

im not going to say forsure but im QUITE sure mine is a 2001 model from an rx300, thats what i was told when i bought it , and it hooked up perfectly fine.

I have the wood grain rx300 wheel with the airbag with the chrome lexus symbol on it, its important that it has the chrome lexus symbol.

Anyways to make it simple your looking to see if it has one clip at the back or two clips.

from what i was told one clip is single stage , two clips is not.

The connector on the back is a single yellow connector so im pretty sure its single stage. (didnt have the pic when i created the thread) 2001 is the one with the chrome emblem so i think im good on that account.

i just wish i could fine one for cheaper

I spent more than $300 on mine, but I got a few other small goodies and its in almost new condition. Huge improvement in the interior over the old wheel.

Btw, '01 RX300 will work. Thats what mine is (although I cant say that I've been in an accident to see the airbag work first hand; everything else works, horn, cruise, etc).

scENFORCER did you need to swap out the cruise control unit from the old wheel to the new one when you did the swap? yea its definitely an improvement in the interior, and i love the feel of a wood steering wheel

yes the cruise control will work fine, everyone recomends swapping it but my mechanic didnt and it works flawlessly.

also these wheels and airbags sell for as much as $500 + I paid like $350 for mine and it had a few flaws.

It is a must for someone trying to update the interior, much better then the IS or celica wheels, or those racing ones with no airbag , yuck.

sounds like you have the proper wheel, id suggest buying it if you have the money, they dont come up for sale all that often.

I did swap out the cruise control (easy to do, like 3-4 screws if you want to do so) but I later realized you dont need to. The wheel is literally plug and play.
