Default Just Bought this SC400, what would you do????

Hey guys,

I wasn't even in the market for another SC but I came across this one online and after judging the guy to be pretty honest, and bargaining him down to a very low price, I am now the owner of this 1992 sc400.

The car has been sitting for two years, the owner told me he was not sure what it would need, but that it was running fine before it sat.

The rear wheels were seized , there was no battery(car was turning over very slightly with battery booster)all four rotors were rusted to hell , tires were shot and trunk lock does not work(rusted inside I think)

On the plus side the car only has 93 000 miles (153 000kms) , the interior, although greyish blue in color, is very clean , near mint actually, there is no visible rust on the body whatsoever(underneath a little bit), door hinges work flawlessly, headlights although cloudy look very nice on the inside, and the look of the car in general is quite clean.

I dropped it off at my mechanics place two days ago, just got word from him that the engine started up almost immediately(1uz's,,,,truly bulletproof) but the alternator was seized completely, and the engine seems to have a slight misfire, although my mechanic admittedly didn't run the car for more then a couple minutes.

He has recommended to me that I use the car for parts, and not bother to dump money into it, which is tempting because it has a lot that I can use, but to me you just don't scrap a SC with such low mileage, so ive told him I will think on it tonight and drop by tomorrow to let him know what I want to do.

So far this is what the car needs:

-battery
-alternator
-full tune up
-4 rotors and pads(possibly calipers)
-brake line leaking in the rear
-4 tires
-hidden and unforeseen issues

If I was on the market for another SC to keep for myself I would not hesitate to just do what needs to be done and fix it up but I do not need two SC's, one is enough for me.

To me these things are quite minor, but they cost money and, so this would not be a restoration for myself, it would be for a sell.

Or I can use the car for parts.

Just wondering your thoughts on it, I have till tomorrow to make my descision.

Thanks

what a steal how did you manage to come across something like this?

you could turn it into a nice 5 speed daily, or rip out the v8 and plant a nice 1jz inside

is it possible the gas has went bad after two years sitting?

perhaps that is why the car is running a bit rough? The guy said it was running like a dream before he took it off the road, and so far hes been honest about everything

I think gas can go bad faster than 2 years, try some new premium and one of those magical liquids they sell in the auto parts store.

I hear that the marvel mystery oil or whatever the proper name is works fairly well.

Looks like a really nice car still...to nice to part. You could probably sell it as is and still make a decent profit.

make it stick shift, super charge or ITB, and then put your ultra wide 20s on it

or fix this to daily drive and go widebody on your other SC

Mine actually came with mud flaps too. After about two years I removed them. I think you should keep it and see if you can get it running for hardly anything. Good luck and what a steal!
