Stock sub amps and replacing subwoofer?
Hey guys and gals.
So I've had my 98 sc for almost two years and it hit me a few months back that my car didn't even have a subwoofer. I usually don't listen to a lot of bass dependent music in my car so it didn't bother me to the point of checking, but boy when I did my jaw dropped and I started laughing hysterically at the fact that there is just a hole where the sub is suppose to be.
With that being said, am I able to find any old 8in sub (perhaps even from a home entertainment system) and ghetto rig it in? Stock, does it have the sufficient amp?
I'm quite the noob in audio, but thought this could be a fun diy thing to eat spare time.
Cheers
Chris

i used a shallow 10" woofer in the factory deck lid with a mono block amp. sounded okay but i didn't use an open enclosure woofer so it would fart out if i cranked it. best to use a box if you want the best sound quality

depending on which headunit you have, the amp for it will be on the rear deck to the left of the sub hole when looking at it from the back seat, or it will be in or around the main amp under the cd changer if you have the other kind. as long as you have the connector hanging out there though its just a matter of mounting it and connecting it up no need to mess with the amp.

Edit: so sources tell me I'm suppose to take out my cup holder (in front of the arm rest) which should expose two screws. well I'm trying to take my cup holder out and the whole bottom plastic surrounding it is starting to come off with it...

take off the shifter plate first, and then you can reach around and push the cup holder out from the bottom.
on an auto its more difficult to remove the shifter plate, but sometimes the metal clips on the cup holder stick in there and feel like you will break something removing it. thats how I do it anyways so I don't break the cup holder when it wont come out with a tug. On a manual you can just pop the shifter plate up, but on an auto you may need to undo part of the shifer, its been a while since I owned an auto SC.
not sure what the cup holder has to do with the subwoofer though.

yes then the shifter plate has to come off, and that is the first place to start since you can access the cup holder from underneath after that. if you rip it out from above when its stuck in you are likely to brake some sort of plastic part under there if not the lid from smashing it into something else once it gives.

literally the first thing i did when i got my SC was disconnect the sub.the first gas station i stopped at, i used the tool kit in the trunk. it was farting like crazy.
i just wanted to mention that, and that the sub is shallow 10" free-air with no enclosure.
