New or rebuilt can range from $500-$600. It will also cost a lot for labor. Roughly $150 for installation and you will have to convert to R134a if you have R12. The conversion is about $150.

I would say you got a good buy. Obviously a lower mileage compressor goes for more money. How many miles did yours have?
Keep in mind that the SC400 uses a different compressor than the SC300. I believe the SC400 shares the same compressor as the LS400.
