Wheel question
Hi all!
I'm still around, and still haven't sold the SC3. I've read the official wheel and tire fitment guide, but it assumes people plan to lower their ride, and assumes they're going with wide rims --- 10" in most cases.
My '94 has the only truly ugly stock rims on an SC. They are the 15" ones with the really big center, and about 15 short spokes, with a bit of a 'swirl'. They're also badly curbed and corroded. Somebody is holding a set of wheels for me off of a 350Z. They're aftermarket, but stock Z specs. The fronts are 17" x 7.5,+ 30 offset. The rears are 17" x 8, +34 offset. I have no plans to lower my SC with coilovers, and am going to have to buy tires to mount on these rims. I can pick them up tomorrow for $200, if they'll work.
Can I use these wheels w/o any fender mods? I'd like to go to a 225/50/17 if it will clear, but would also go 225/40. They're a clean six spokes, that would look much better than my stock rims. I have first option on them, and the price is right. But, will they work?
Thanks for any help!

This is what I have now --- I think they're awful:

... not to mention the +50 offset.

id rather keep the stock wheels then buy these nasty aftermarket wheels. If you want cheap wheels that will look ok not lowered, try to get some 17" supra tt wheels. you can find these with tires for $500 all day

I think you should save up for some nice wheels. Unless you make a lot of money your car isn't gonna look cool fast. Which is why I spent a lot of time saving up for wheels I really like. Its a tough road, but I think its totally worth it if you're happy with the results

The thing is...if your selling the car it's better to keep stock wheels, and here's why.
If you put some cheap junk wheels on the car it would turn away buyers, personally I know if someone put some cheap craptastic wheels on the car then he really doesn't care about the car, and if he's willing to put a cheap set of wheels on it he's likely to go cheap on everything else.(No offense intended).
If I were you I would just look on craigslist for a cheap set of GS wheels or something Lexus, they're are plenty of good finds out there. If your spending $200 on the rims + who knows what on tires your budget should be at about $500-$600. You can find a good quality like new Lexus set for that price with tires!

I hear what all of you are saying, but I am selling the car, have been searching craigslist, and am already wondering if I'll get back what I spend on wheels/tires. I can grab those for $200, which is less than anything else on there lately. I can also get two almost new Blizzac 235/45r17 for $125, and 2 Pirelli 235/45 winter sport for $80, supposedly very good. I know it isn't the best choice, but the car has 235K on the clock, so there has to be a point of diminishing return when spending money on making it look better. Even these, WOULD look better than the present stock 15"s. I'll have $400 in the set up. I have been looking for stock Lexus wheels with tires, and haven't found anything with good tires for under $750.
My question really though, was about fitment. I did some more research last night, and 235/45/r17 will come in about 1" shorter than the stock 215/60r15. Is that enough to eliminate clearance issues when running +30 and +34 offset?

I went an bought the wheels. They're perfectly straight and very clean. Came with nuts and locks.
I could still use fitment help though, if anyone knows.
235/45/17 on 17x7.5 w/ +30 offset front
235/45/17 on 17x8 w/ +34 offset rear
Will these work w/o fender mods on an SC that is not lowered?
Thanks!

Thanks, guys!I
decided to run 225.45R17 instead. Four Continentals for $150.
I actually just missed a set of mustang wheels for $150 a week ago ---- some girl in Highland's Ranch, CO. Somebody beat me to them.

I've noticed that wheel questions, more than anything else, elicit a slew of opinions ---- even though they're completely a matter of personal taste, and the most subjective choice anyone can make for their car.
There's a thread here that asks if people have stock wheels from another car on their SC, with a lot of pictures. I saw some setups I liked, but found I liked ones that a lot of other people didn't.
