Angry How is the Front Badge Affixed?

My SC400 had the front bumper repaired prior to my buying the car. The chrome badge is poorly affixed (was done by a Toyota dealer - not Lexus). It appears as though some sort of "clear" silicon adhesive was used as I can see the bead relatively easy along/under the topside of the circle. It is some sort of flexible material used under the badge.

How are these badges actually fastened to the bumper skin?

Is it a common practice to use some sort of adhesive or sealant in this manner?

Any suggestions on removing it and doing it properly, or is this something for my Dallas area Lexus dealership?

Thanks in advance.

There's no need to take it to the dealership. I took mine off to put on a griffin (the soarer's emblem) and it just pops right off! I was actually amazed at how easy it is. Just use a knife or screwdriver and pry it off at several places around the "L" and the adhesive (double sided tape) will just come off. It will leave some residue, but this can be easily cleaned up with either Goo Gone or soap and a rag. It also has 3 prongs underneath it that are just pins to align it correctly. If you really want to get raped on prices by Sewell in Dallas, you can take it there, but it's not that difficult to do. By the way, where in Dallas are you from?

Default follow-up question.........

So, there is suppose to be some adhesive on the badge, if I understand correctly. This definitely appears not to be the case on this one - or it was not applied correctly due to the bead of an added adhesive substance.

How do you protect the paint when "prying" the badge away from the bumper??

If I were to take it off, what would I use for adhesive on the badge so not to leave another "bead" ??

I'm in Carrollton/Plano area. Love the car, though she needs some minor cosmetics.

.
If your going to take it off don't pry it off use a hair dryer to heat it up a little and then some floss or maybe fishing line to go around the emblem. its much safer.
