Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone replaced their PS High pressure hose. The dealer wants $386 for it. Is an after market hose available for the SC400. Mine's a 92. I've searched through the posts and doesn't look an after market hose is available.
Thank you..

I had a 72 BMW and their PS hoses also cost a fortune. I recall reading in the BMW Roundel that the old hose and fittings can be taken to a repair/machine shop and a new, generic high-pressure hose can be attached to the old fittings.
Not sure of any details besides that, but it might be worth investigating if no one posts alternative sources.

Hello,
Yea I went through this when I blew my motor up, turns out I needed a new power steering hose as well as the new motor. Mine was just short of 400 dollars. I was told it was because it had an electronic sensor at both ends and when I looked at it, sure enough there they were, two electronic connectors at each end. Plus it was a ridiculous shape as well all twisted and having many bends but I guess it was the best design they could have created. Oh and yes I got mine from the dealer as I couldn,t find it any where else.
Hope this helps,
Brian

hey brian
i spoke to this machine shop guy at http://www.magillsquality.com/tubehoses.htm
he says to send him the old hose and he will make a duplicate of it and test it for $170. But should I just get it from the dealer instead because of the electronics involved.
thanks

I have a power steering pump with the hoses attached to it which i bought to replace my leaky power steering pump, but all my mechanic did was readjust the seal and that fixed my leak problem, so now i have one lying around, im sure it doesnt leak and it comes with all the hoses, ill take $350 plus shipping for it.

Hello,
If for sure you know that your electronis aren't shot on each end of hose then I would say you can have just the hose replaced. Just find out if whoever is doing the job is going to be able to put the sensors on properly. I'm not 100% sure though just double check if it's able to be done.
