Default 1992 SC400 considered a CLASSIC now???

After begenning my swap to a 1JZ, I got curious to see what my car would be worth if I ever wanted to sell it. After I looked up my car, of course it didnt have any options to add, but I was totally shocked at the numbers. It is now considered a classic under their terms and conditions, being 20 years old. I wanted to know if anyone has looked their car up and checked it as well. I do know there is stipulations on using NADA, but exactly how do we judge the worth of these cars. I have maybe 20K in mine now and still aint finished. This is a period of over five years of ownership. I remember the last time I looked at this, it was like half the value of what it is showing today....

What does everyone think?

Is the 1992's soon POSSIBLY going to compete with the Supra's?

I say this due to the arguement why the Supra's are always much higher than our cars...

Let the discussion begin...

Wow, very nice. So I may even be able to get my money back after I am done working on it if I ever do decide to sell. Not likely, but good to know.

It is a very nice conclusion to know about these 1992's. I like so far of the research and materials I have found on them..

I've discussed this several times over the years but the bottom line is that nobody is going to buy a non collectible car for any more than the average price. It just isn't COLLECTIBLE. It is however antique. Values will not go up on a car most people could care less about. You have to be an enthusiast or an old lady to want one if you look at the owners of them. If you try to sell me your 1992 SC for $4500 I'll go to the 1997 beside it and buy it for $4500.

I don't think so. I think you will see low mile survivors going for decent numbers, but never close to what the Supras bring. The fact is that the SC is not a desirable car for collectors.

People want certain cars, but not others. Our car is an "other" because of what it is, (an outdated luxury car), and because they built too many for it to be considered rare.

The fact that we can point to high book values will help sells to the average buyer though.

The fact we can point to the newer one that's $1500 less than you're asking will solve that issue quickly. It's generally know as over-valuing the market and it never works out well. Ask any home owner that bought in 2008.

The "average buyer" won't generally be looking for a 20 year old car with 200k+ on it either. People who want SCs tend to know what they are, so they tend to also know that they are worth very little

I agree with OLT. Basically, antique doesn't mean collectible. I wish the value of our beloved SC's were higher too, but the demand, hence the market just isn't there.

It can't compete with the supra because supra got the frame from movies and etc. Sc didn't. If I had 25k between supra and sc, i would pick supra.

there were around 11,300 supras made for the US and about 100k+ SC's those numbers alone justify why the supra is worth more in my opinion.

also the SC wasn't made as a collectors car, it's a luxury sport cruiser that was made to meet the needs of people who wanted to daily drive them and put miles on them. More collectible cars are bought for your weekend drives and date nights.

also i tried to convince myself by comparing mustang production numbers but the cars are marketed to two completely different people and they have different images. Mustangs hold their value better than our cars and their productions number exceed the SC ever year they are made in the 100,000-200,000 area....

i dont know where i am going with this..... haha some one want to expand on the idea im trying to convey? lol

Everyones post has some well thought out points. I posted this to see if others have thought the same thinking process. In the end, no one can really say what the market will do with these SC's. Because The SC's has just hit the 20 year time period, thus being now called a CLASSIC, under the NADA. Thats what I am talking about, not the past..

I do understand what makes people believe the Supra is so high.. Its a sports car.. Simply understood. SC's are not.. I am just wondering will the 1993's be worth more next year? Thats my point! Are they finally coming around?

Since I bought mine last year the value of it has gone up. I bought mine for $5400 last year, and according to NADA my car books for $7,700 clean retail. And thats how much its worth after already deducting $1000 for high mileage (201K)
