Is this a realistic price?
Hey everyone,
I'm selling a 1993 SC400 for a friend and I'd like to get some input on what you think of the asking price, given the condition, etc..
(Cliff's Notes version: 1993 SC400 with 216K miles for $4,200.)
The overall condition is good, with nice white paint (a few chips here and there), chrome wheels (no curb rash), and service records for recent maintenance (timing belt, radiator, lower control arms, rear brakes, steering rack, transmission and power steering flush, plugs & wires, new tires, etc.)
The bad news is it has a dried out tan leather interior, the rear seat has split seams at the top, the drivers door panel has a broken armrest, the gauge needles are dark and the climate control screen is unreadable, & the parking brake boot is torn. Also the front lip is kind of tweaked in one area - pushed inward a bit. One of the service records mentions an oil pan leak that hasn't been fixed yet.
The car runs and drives fine, with no strange clunks, noises or smells. The Carfax report is clean. It looks like 3 owners, and the car has 216K miles.
I'm actually considering buying the car myself as a restoration project. Would this be a fun project or should I run for the hills?

I bought my 92 sc300 for $1,100 with 126,000 …. but it also had faded and torn leather and bad door mechanisms on both sides couple bulbs out in the dash bleeding climate control messy paint ect ect ya know the normal stuff for our vehicles and can also be expected due to the age of our vehicles mine more than yours cause you are in CA and I'm in MA
*@%!# you salt and wicked trashy roads!!!
4200 to me seems a little up there I'm sure if you searched you could do better and today I would imagine with all the tech that is at the disposal of buyers for anything……..they are going to search and do better a good amount of the owners here spent a lot of time waiting for the right deal or ideal car Im sure.
also here is a link to KBB this quote is for a year newer than the car you mentioned as they did not have a 1993 but you get the idea

Run to the hills and the mountains behind it, at that price like that. Lexus or not, it's 20 years old with close to a quarter million miles. Alter that price in half and then start thinking about it.

Yup. With all due respect, I think the $4200 asking price is quite high for what you described. I'm planning on selling my 92 with 218,000 miles with tein lowering springs, KYB shocks, and a system in it for half that.
In all honesty I would expect to see a car like that sell in my area for about $1200-$1500

I bought my car for 3100 with 159k and it had a fresh repaint 4 years ago (macco) and the interior is in really good shape. Not perfect, but good solid shape. Some ppl have complimented on how "clean" my interior looks.
