Question Car smells nasty when I floor it...

This is weird. Can anyone tell me what I am smelling when I floor it in my car? It only happens when I lay into it...on the freeway mostly...not really when I run through the first few gears on surface streets (not that I do that, or anything...because that would be bad) .

But what is the smell. I cannot even explain it...sort of a burning smell...but not really...sort of a...blah...I don't know. It's not oil burning, I know that. I cannot pinpoint it. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

I think that the only person who can answer this question, is someone else who has experienced it, and remedied it. It is such a strange smell, that I cannot even describe it...just an odd burning type smell...I don't know...

I can't smell your car but my educated guess, since it's only when you *****can it, would be the catalytic converters

Are you using fuel additives? Octane booster?

Ooooohhh...good guess...the cats...I didn't think of that. That could possibly be it. It makes sense. I'll be doing an exhaust soon, and I'll probably be changing them...hrm...

It's the cats, I'll bet. Mine does it,too. I really notice it when I floor it and the sunroof is open. Even new cars do it, so it's just a cat thing. My friend's girl gassed her RSX in front of me, and I could smell the same thing with my vents on full blast. I was driving a 3 series convertible on a freeway on ramp and I could smell the same thing. Maybe aftermarket cats would help some, but they probably still make a little smell when you goose it.

Hey guys! This smell that you're getting inside your car is coming from a canister inside the engine bay, not sure which one it is, but I'll get back to you with the details.

I get the same smell only when I floor it....

yeah,it's embarrassing!ever have an episode where you have people in the car ,you floor it -and they think you let one go in the car?, well i was told it is a container behind the dash where the vents may have gotten outside trash in,leaves, etc. mildew settles in there and voila!instant stink!.i tried a temporary solution by purchasing a bottle of any kind of odor cleaner-like the one found in pepboys or autozone for$4.00 or so.i think it's called odor or ozone cleaner(i forgot the name )but it has no scent and cleanes out odors.i open the hood and sprayed a couple of shots directly in the vent under the front windshield and this procedure works, but is only temporary.
