Sc300 or Mkiii Supra?
Well here's my situation. I'm in college and most likely will be getting a job in the summer. By that time I'll have a total of $8-$10k. What would be better for me to get? An sc300 or Mkiii supra? I plan on getting a Mkiv supra when I graduate and i've heard a lot of people say before getting such a powerful turboed car I should practice and get comfortable with a rwd turbo car. That's why I think an mkiii is good. But the BHG problem with the mkiii's bother me. But the mkiii's have more potential than the sc300's w/o the 2jz swap.
What to you guys think? I'm talking about the sc300 5-speed.
They both look nice as hell though.

its a trade off really. mk3 is fast, but doesnt have the luxury that an sc300 has. obviously it has more aftermarket potential too. the sc300 is designed for luxury first, performance second, tho you can obviously turbo the engine or do a complete swap out of the engine and tranny. the sc300 probably costs more to maintain, and i think the aftermarket is a bit more expensive, too. if yer going to just get a mk4 supra after college, id go with the mk3 for now since its closer to what you seem to really want.

I am graduating in May and I just bought my SC300 in August. I love it. I was contemplating a MKIV Supra as well after school. I decided to do the 2jz-gte swap when I graduate and then get a R32 skyline. Supras are so common and everyone knows what they can do. But a SC300 with 600 rwhp with a body kit is still a sleeper. A MKIII is decent but in the end I love the lex so much more. My choice SC300 5 speed.

I really think you should get a SC300 5sp if you can. SC is a lot more like an MKIV then a MKIII supra is. Speed isn't everything, and the SC300 does have pretty good potential if you do keep it for a while. Those guys with turbo 300 push 400-500rwhp, I don't know how much more you want? And even if you don't have the money to do a project like that, just slap some nice rims and lower your car. I think you will be a lot happier, the SC has a real nice interior for its time.

Another thing is ask on Supraforums, I am sure most MKIV owners (which is you in the future) would choose a SC300 over a MKIII. I think most feedback you will get here will be more biased than if you asked a MKIV owner... but of course they should be a bit more biased to supra.

Not many ladies recognize the mkiii. The Mkiv yeah, but not the mkiii. The thing I hate is the freakin snow up here. I'm originally from az and just goin to school here. I would hate to have my baby parked outside while it's below zero and snow just piling up

this one's obvious!
The Lex will always catch more women's eyes,... Lex is associated with MUCHO MONEY! The average woman would tell you,... "that's a toyota,... " and wouldn't care much about 400hp or more,...
Do tha coupe,... L for Lavish, Looks, Likeability, and Loved by tha Ladies!
NAZTY97
plus if you do a turbo or swap,.. you get all of the above plus a can of "whoopazzzzz" for the unsuspecting driver who would ordinarily think you were slow as molases.

I'd say get the SC. You will still learn how to properly control a RWD car and it's more stylish than the MKIII. Form follows function, but only so far.
Or if you're serious about learning how to drive, find an MR-2 Turbo. I learned so many control techniques when I had mine...it's very "nervous" so it requires a lot of attention and direct input. I still wish I had her.

Yeah I probably will end up gettin an sc. But the ones in my price range are kinda high mileage. What would you guys say is a limit on high mileage? I'll probably have around 8-10k hopefully. So I guess I'll be expecting a car around 100-120k miles? Is that too much?

I just bought my sc300 5spd and I am still in college. A 2jzgte will be in shortly. imo the lexus is sporty and luxury in one plus they are not played out yet. So far all the girls i know love my new car. Shows them you have class!! I made my choice over the mkiv for insurance reasons. From the reseach I have done the mkiii isnt all that, plus its old school. I mean you get a mkii people know what year it is, you get a lex and change the front they will think its much newer than it is. I would get the sc and save your money and build a monster you will be much happier!!
