How To Remove Dash Kits After Installed
#16
Not to mention that the kit you're calling the BEST isn't even real wood. Depends what you're looking for, I ordered a couple of wood kits to see which would have the best fit, finish, and match, and that's the one i'll use, i'll report back when i'm done....

wood kits
There are wood kits out there made of REAL wood? Thats news to me... I wish they made kits that basically just replaced the ENTIRE panel instead of just laying a "sticker" over it... but in my opinion I know thats not real wood, but it still looks excellent and gets me lots of good comments.

SC400-V8 & kylesc400,
Provide some pic's. so we all can see the comparisions and pit falls that you encounter
when installing the kit.
As the saying goes: "A picture is worth a thousand threads"

wood kits picture
Hey there, Here is a picture of what the kit looks like installed. Mine looks exactly the same, except I had a little trouble with the big three center console, they are about 1/4 of a centimeter off, which for someone as finiky as me is enough to make me reorder the pieces and do it over again.

dash
oh my bad. I dont think I'll be home for a few weeks but I'll try to get some close ups as soon as possible. I can say for a fact the kit looks excellent, but the thin moldings that go around the air vents dont look as good as the rest of the kit. Its all good. I dont drive my lexus at school (they would destroy it!) I drive my mom's 99 Civic sedan. Ironically the civic is everything I hate in a car.

i just removed all of the wood dash kit pieces off the stock plastics(radio, climate control, door switches, dash, sunroof controls, and gearshift)...i'm going for a cleaner look(to match my new(alpine) radio install.i used a heat gun on high..a few inches from the surface of the piece being removed, i kept the gun moving over the piece, and kept checking the surface of the wood kit for wamth(with emphasis on the corners...).when warm enough to the touch, the glue underneath loosens and you should be able to pull the wood right off the plastic.use your fingers to "roll" the glue off the plastics(avoid using tools such as-screwdrivers to pry the kit off..this will damage the plastics underneath.).i used a product called AFTA to clean the leftover glue off-works like magic!.note:my plastics were in perfect condition when i took the kit off-and i had my kit on for about 3.5 years!.......hope this helps anyone..............

This is great guys! Do let us know what the wood kits look like. Thickness and matching to the original wood trim. I ordered a kit a couple of years back and tried it. The wood doesn't match my original kit and kinda been regretting it ever since. If there's a kit that's thin and matches the original I'll give it another try.
