There's several threads already out here on the SC400/300 forum with lots of examples- one is called "Pics of subs in trunk".

Here's my solution to the space problem:

You can click on link below for more details.

Default <sputter!> Ya want ME to make you one?

Wow- I'm assuming you'd want one to put in your new SC300, which promises to be quite a showcase. You have very high standards for your cars, so I'm honored.

Alas, Jon, I am fiberglassed OUT! As you can see from all the work I put into it, that was an intense couple of months! I was really into it at the time, and went all out in its construction, but I am glad it is over. I know one should never say never, but that's the last time I ever do something like that!

Very understandable, i'm thinking i'll borrow from your design and start 'glassing, otherwise maybe the spare tyre well, it's just so stinky and time consuming ...

As far as the showcase comment, thx, i'm trying, all i've got on there now is rims, some very cool tint, and a few nick-nacks, only been a couple weeks, but i've got a stack of Alpine boxes taller than me waiting to go in, full Dolby 5.1 digital, after that i'll hopefully have the body kit i've been trying to get since before Mr. T made his comeback , and then it's off to Toyomoto if all goes well, but damn this is hard while paying for full coverage on all three Lexii every month and having just gotten engaged...

Ultima,

I went with the spare tire well. Perry's idea was awesome but I play golf with a 52" driver. It does not fit well if I kill the trunk width. I used the back half of the spare tire well for a 12" JL sub that with only 100w produces an excessive amount of low, solid, thundering bass. Louder than my 2 12" Boston Pros did with 400w.

With the half spare tire well option, I can still stand up my full size spare against the gas tank with no problems.

Default 52" Driver!

My golf clubs fit, but my longest driver is only 45"!
Amazing how much trunk room our LS brethren have. Tight trunk space is one of the few areas where our cars come up short <-- pun reaction.

Actually, it's the bag that's old.

The clubs are fine, given I'm the sort of golfer that can play 18 holes and lose 19 ***** (one on each hole, and one in the ball washer).

Would you happen to have the specs on that box? I was looking to make the exact same thing, and it would be nice to know the pieces you made/sizes and what not. Also, how you attached it to the car body.

Is there a back panel? Or do you use the rear fender for the back? Did you remove the rear baffel (black box behind the speaker)?

Just curious.

Thanks

Keith, I don't necessarily look at everyone's signature line, either!

Check out the sounddomain page; it's fairly complete, but let me know if I can elaborate on anything. The enclosure is not attached- it's a press-fit. I have so much experience removing it (to show it off the rear construction) that I can do it in seconds by tugging at just the right points.

While you are at sounddomain.com, you can check out the excellent web page of fellow CL member Kyle Harty - he's the real hard core fiberglasser- he made one that's like 8 cubic feet! RetroDrive posts on there often, too.

For the record, I have the "view signatures" option turned off in my prefrences....

I have the option turned on now for humiliation purposes.

Thanks for the info. I can see now why its so funny.
