Took "Enhanced" Smog Test Today: UNBELIEVABLE Result
I got a notice for my 92 SC 400 that I'm required to take an enhanced smog check inspection that can be done only at a Red Star station.
Inspection reason: High emitter profile
I live in the Super "Nanny" state of The Peoples Republic of California
The results were beyond "Spectacular" for this 23yr old Lexus
PLS read these #'s these are the computer read outs:
co2 = Lexus # 14.8
o2 = Lexus: 0.0
hc = max: 73 _________Lexus: 08
co = max: 0.49________Lexus: 0.03
no = max: 530________Lexus: 12
pcv ; pass
catalytic converter: pass
egr: pass
spark controls: pass
fuel evaporative controls: pass
fuel cap functional & visual: pass-(if you can believe this your gas cap has to pass)
fuel evaporative controls: pass
obd system checks: pass
wiring to sensors: pass
vacuum lines to sensors: pass
fuel injection: pass
all other emission related components: pass
oxygen sensor: pass
liquid fuel leaks: pass
the car was raised on a lift & run on a Dynamometer
the engine has never been opened / only timing belts & oil changes done
the motor is 23yrs old w over 1/4 mill miles on it
the results say to me these motors must be some of the best mass produced motors
I feel real lucky owning a Lexus SC 400.-----(it still runs like a Rolex)

Congratulations on passing with such good numbers! I think most major areas in California have been using "Enhanced" smog testing for a while.
This is the first time that I have heard of a "Red" Star Station, however. What's supposed to be different about it?
Was this one of their random testing letters or the standard two-year interval?

this thread is actually about the quality of the Lexus motor & how lucky we are to own them
by the way during the inspection 3 separate people came up to me w comps for the car including the shop manager w the paperwork that the car must be a 2000
I get compliments all the time like you guys, but 3 @ 1 shot was pretty good

I had similar experience on my Son's 95 SC400 (125K miles). I asked the inspector that is he sure that his machine is calibrated right. He reassured me that the machine is calibrated correctly.

My 99 SC400 with about 125k on her runs so damn good it's ridiculous. It's so quiet at Idle I have a hard time believing it's a V8 in their. When ever i drive it I'm amazed how smooth of a car these babies are.

I just spray it down @ the carwash about twice a yr "w the motor running" When its dry I squirt some armorall ultra shine & it does the rest. I never touch it!
I've had it for most of its life: its always looked like this

[QUOTE=Studiogeek;8702376]Barbary,
Your motor is obviously healthy. I need a baseline for comparison. What city gas mileage do you get? What is the worst it ever is for city only?
Tony[/QUOTE
HELLO Tony aka Geek
I'm sorry I have no idea what my city mileage is
I do know my hwy is close to 25 I think that is because I still have the needle nose. Unless I floor it then its down into the teens
Hey! I'm looking forward to more pics of you' re red one The subtle changes I saw were dramatic, maybe u don't have to do so much 2 it; u can focus on drive train

Barbary,
25 is AMAZING for an older V8! WOW!
More pictures of the red one soon man. I'm not going too far with it. Blue one will stay stock with an OEM lip. The red one will get the Shine Auto rear and sides I will also mount my Wise lip on the stock nose. I have been sitting on all that stuff for a year, it's time to use it. I love stock as well so i had to keep one of them that way.
I wonder how many miles you are going to get out of that thing man???
I can't see it ever stopping. You won't let it ;-)
