Hello Everyone,

Trying to find factory all season H rated tires for cold snowy canadian winters.
BF Goodrich made an amazing 225 55 R16 A/S however, discontinued the
Traction TA. Did some googling, seems like the tire that precedes it
(ie, G-Force Super Sport) is not that great for winters, fast wear etc...
Just bad reviews all around. And the same goes for the Michellin
PXMX4 (or something like that...)

I know a lot of you run 23inch rims with rolled fenders however, any good
advice for a 150.00 dollar all season tire that performs well in heavy snow
for us mortals?

I was thinking of going with the Goodyear All Season tires. It's only about $420 a set.

Check craigslist too if you want a winter tire, I always see snow tires up there for cheap.

I have goodyear eagle GTs and while I have a dedicated snow tire, the few times with snow before I changed the tires, the Eagle GTs did pretty well. That being said, it might be worth it to buy a set of dedicated snow tires, even used ones. I got a set of brand new Michelin x-ice snow tires for $350 and they are great in the snow. I know tires are a little more expensive in Canada, so it may even be worth checking tires in Buffalo, NY about an hour away as I e run into numerous people who have done so and said theyve saved a few hundred dollars

I don't nave much advice regarding a/s tires, but you should be able to find some professional "review" or "comparisons" that have semi-scientific testing (check tire rack's comparisons, for starters).
However, I can advise you that a good set of dedicated snow tires (Bridgestone Blizzak, Michelin X-Ice, etc) are tremendously better in any snow/ice condition (and, in my opinion, well worth the cost). The up-front cost of two separate sets of tires is significant, but because the wear will be split between them, both sets will last much longer. If you get a second set of wheels for the snow tires, changing them out between seasons is quick and easy. Used OE wheels aren't that hard to find, or you if you would prefer, you can get fancier wheels for your summer tires, and keep the old stock wheels for your snow tires.

Also, for snow tires, if you get a tire size 215/60/16,the diameter and everything is the same, the only difference is the width and you may have more options and a cheaper price than a 225 tire, and in reality the narrower tire is usually better for snow tires.

Everything about 215/60/16 is very true. The BF Goodrich made an amazing tire
Traction T/A around 150 in 225/55/16, now they only have 215/60/16, was considering but there are other options out there.

For the 150(USD)-200(CDN) Range, 95H all season in 225/55/16:

Goodyear ComforTred - 192.00
Pirelli Cinturato P7 All Season Plus - 192.00

Both seem to have very good reviews mileage is slightly more on the Goodyear. I would assume the warranty is good on both....

I am from Cambridge so by Canadian standards we are neighbours.
I drove an SC400 one winter in the 90s, and put on snows, then switched to summer
tires in March/April. The car is not good in snow unless you have the right tire.
All seasons don't cut it in our climate regretfully and the clearance makes you consider where
you park. Enjoy the car.

The General G-MAX 03 model are one of the best all season tires for any car FWD or RWD. And they were extremely affordable. I'm 99% sure they offer a 225/55-16 radial because that's the exact size I was looking to buy for one of my other cars. If they don't have that they will probably have something like a 215/60 or something that ends up the same diameter. I intend on buying 4 of these pretty soon because I've heard so many people rave about the rain and snow performance. Thankfully no big snowfalls yet so I haven't NEEDED snow tires yet.

Your other option is to go to a 225/60/16 as I have for winter, gives the car a bit more ground clearance, but as it's already been suggested, buy a 2nd pair of rims & get snow tires, also some weight in the trunk helps. These cars are high powered iron ice skates in the winter.
