Default Is it possibe for brakes to have too much air in lines?

I was driving home tonight and I hit the brakes kind of hard because I had to stop quick at a light. Then while driving again I go to put on the brake and I can barely push it down. It feels like a 5500lb pressure plate on a Race Car or something.. I can maybe push it down a 1/4 but it doesnt really help stopping so I use the E-Brake to get home. It feels like there is an extreme amount of pressure. Anyone know what this could be? I checked the brake fluid and it is fine... Any ideas?

I bet your power brake booster has failed. A car with disc brakes on all 4 corners will be VERY hard to stop with no boost. Proceed SLOWLY to a brake shop and ask them to check your booster.

If you had air in the system, the pedal would feel spongy, mushy, not rock-hard...

not as much as it would cost to fix the abuse done to your e-brake over time, or the cost of repairing a wrecked sc

if I were you I'd hope it's just a vacuum hose or something - if you need to replace the booster it might be $$$ for a new Lexus part - I don't know how much, but I would guess in the hundreds - if you do your own work, you may try looking for a used one from a wrecking yard - but kyle is right, what are you gonna do, not fix it? And if you're not a pretty good mechanic, don't mess with your brakes yourself! Go to the dealer or a good modern brake shop...

I've had a similar problem before. It turned out to just be a hose that had blown off. It was near the back of the engine on top in the middle somewhere. I could hear it blowing/sucking air when I opened the hood with the car running. I was able to just put it back on and put a better strap around it to make sure it held better and I haven't had problems since.

If you have a better clip to put on it, go ahead and do that also. Once the old one comes off, it never seems to hold as well as it should. If not oh well, it's more of an annoyance than an actually problem usually.
