What to pay 97 sc300 manual
#19
Unfortunately I have heard this from so many old timers of our community who have started to shy away from these cars. One reason why these cars are now a dollar for a dozen. They have lost their value.
No offense meant to anyone but looks to me the honda crowd mentality had already invaded the SC section a long time ago . People want to have fast SCs but would put a fart can to make it sound and pretend like a fast car and wont do it right. This you can tell through our classified section. You could hardly sell a performance part here. But at SF, if you have a good performance part at a good price, it doesn't last long , it is gone. We all want good deals , that includes me. If it is the seller selling it at a low price , that is one thing, but the buyer giving a ridiculuously low offer is another thing.. that is low balling. That had brought really down the value of our SCs.
I know some might be offended by what I just said... again no offense meant to anyone, but it is the sad truth about our SCs. I have 2 MKIVs, I could simply have shied away from SCs. But as you all can see I love these SCs that is why I have a couple and am trying to build them right slowly since I am not a rich dude who can burn lots of money right away.
We as a community of SC enthusiasts should be the first one to take pride and see the value of our cars cause if we don't , nobody will.

It's not about want or need. I want to pay fair market value no matter if it's 5k or 10k. Only problem with the sc300 category is its a specialty car that varies quite a bit in value based on rarity such as being a factory 5 speed. I didn't know the wheels were that expensive and that's a good poin to unload them and buy a set of supra tt's that I would switch to anyways. I think that may have just made my mind

Every sc owner remember what gerrb just say, it is true but we have to make things change only owners off these cars could make a difference in their market value . And as far if the price is ok or not it depends if you want a clean rare hard to find in factory shape . If you have in mind to do a turbo set up or a swap I would buy another less expensive factory 5 speed

kbb in my opinion is garbage.any well kept older car is always priced over kbb.it is only a guide and not gospel.
i dont know anyone that would sell a older pristine vehicle for the kbb price.my.02 cents

I have spent around 15K on each of my Sc's to get them to or near this point. In retrospect, I would rather have paid 10K each for enthusiasts owned cars already upgraded to this level. I'd try to pay 9K and walk away VERY happy if it is in the condition it appears to be in. You are not really paying the 1 in 120 tax if you consider it 5K for car, 5K for upgrades/condition. Fully going over a 95' and doing upgrades/maintenance will run you 5K at the very least unless you have a wholesale parts connection and do all work yourself.
For me, wheels, coilovers, timing belt/water pump, and front end bushings were about 5K alone and I have done MUCH more.
