Good Deal? 98 with 79,000 miles
I bought a 1998 SC-400 today for 8000$, after all fees for license plates, tabs and taxes 9000$. i was wondering if this was a good deal or did i take a hit? i don't mind anymore, i've only drove it for a day but i love it. it's better then the 02 audi i had!
i enjoy it much more and the reliability reviews i've read seem outstanding. only thing is the passenger door doesn't open from the outside, does from the inside

Welcome to Club Lexus!
I wouldn't say you took a hit if its in great condition. I'd say you paid top dollar for what is to many, the most desirable Sc if you don't want to swap/boost the motor. Its by far, the most powerful stock Sc. It's done, don't second guess yourself, just enjoy it.
HERE is perhaps the most comprehensive SC thread in the world. It has answers to your question and more.
With that model, stay on top of the timing belt/water pump job. Do that at the recommended intervals. 98+ are interference motors and will self destruct if the belt snaps. Handle that and you will be fine for many, many years!
We are going to need some pics of that thing ASAP ;-)

I'd say you got it at just the right price. I'm asking slightly more for my '99 with a few mods though. But regardless, you'll love the car. I dont want to part with it, hands down best car I've ever owned.

98+ SC400's are the rarest of the first gen SC's, and had nearly 300hp at the crank, which is considerably more than pre98 400's and 300's. IMO they're worth more than the rest, especially at that mileage. Don't fret, from the pictures it looks to be in good condition, and the door thing is actually quite common on these cars.
