Default New car advice, SC4 or LS??

I am looking for a daily driver, and I am torn between a 95/96 LS or an 93/94 SC4. I travel 25 miles each way to work, 95% highway driving, in and out of traffic. I have decided I want a car with an automatic, after driving a manual to work the past 9 years. I want something comfortable and reliable to commute in. My primary concern about an LS is that it has little or no sportiness to it. I am in my early 30s, and am a little hung up on driving a grandpa car. If I were willing to spend more $$$, I would get a GS4, with no hesitation, but just can't justify dropping that kinda money on my commuter. My fiance thinks I should get an SC4, that it fits "me" much better. She has a Landcruiser, so we don't "need" a 4dr luxury sedan. I agree that an SC4 is sportier, and I have always liked them alot. OTOH, I also have a 5spd convertible as a fun/weekend car, so I don't "need" something so sporty as a daily driver. I like the 95/96 LSs because they are the newer generation, yet appear to be the most car for the money. Would I love HIDs etc that come with a 98 and newer? Sure, but again, too much money. I like the 93/94 SCs better than the 95 and newer because of the wheels and the front spoiler. They also seem to be a little less pricey, and can be found with low miles more often. I don't like that its the first generation, has no usable back seat, and limited trunk space. I think the 95/96 LS is more car for similar money. Anyways, figured some members have had both cars, and wanted to hear your opinions. Thanks in advance...

Obviously, the people in the SC forum will say SC over an LS, but If you want to have more fun going to work, with a sportier car, than go with the SC, it may make you fell better during the week as opposed to an LS. Additionally, the SC's do have a semi-functional back seat and limited trunk space, but i've never wished i had extra room instead of the sporty good looks. . If your fiance thinks you would like the SC better, she knows you better than us, and listen to her. As for comfort, the car is very comfortable and reliable, but i dont know if its a big differance from the LS, which is also a Lexus, Duh. Either way, the Lexus you choose will not dissappoint you. Good Luck! - Richard

i had to make this decision after loosing an MBZ E-Class. Bought an 97 SC4 and wondered why i never owned one before. A wonderful car with unique looks. The LS's are starting to look long in the tooth and are basically owned by older folks. The SC is sporty with understated elegance. I throw my short friends in the back seats and havent had a complaint! You'll love the SC.

Why dont you just test drive them both and then decide? If your not able to make up your own mind by then best bet is to go with her choice, wich is a sure winner and a timeless design

Default SC ..............

I vote for the SC But you also have to look at the 2 cars, as in miles, price and what you want to do with it..........

My 2cents,

Yep, wanted to add my 2 cents also - I always thought the LS400 was an "old man's car" ... at least in conparison to it's more stylish siblings - mainly the SC. It's been said so many times before, but these SC's, even the introductory 92 year - hold their age extremely well. Timeless lines. Remember, it was Playboy's Car of the Year in 93!

Anyway you go, you still have that great Lexus V-8 ... Considered to be the finest V-8 ever ...

Well,

Let me put some sense into this thread. I know most of you are SC owners. I have an "old school" LS400. I got it because of my little new born baby. I have a MDX for my wife and I also drive high modified Cobra. I need a daily driver that can carry my baby too. I chose LS 400 because its a 4 doors sedan. If you plan to have a kid in the near future, i would recommend a LS. Yes, SC is a beautiful that is why i am looking for one. If you buy two (LS & SC), you would not have the problem.

SC=Player/Single=Sportier
LS=Successful Family Man.

Both LS and SC are very reliable. I think you can get a better deal with older LS. 93 LS400 would be a great buy.

I chose the SC because i already had an suv, i drive the benz through the week or my ranger, the suv whenever, and the sc on the weekends.

Guys the LS is not an old man's car, a Cadilac Deville, Buick, Ford Crown Vic or something is an old man's car. The LS is for classy family men like myself, don't get me wrong the SC is a beautiful car, it just depends on what your taste and needs are. Some day I'll have an SC as the weekend driver.
