How rare is this on the SC's? I was reading jamie72's thread on wanting to supercharge his SC400 and noticed his has the rear window wiper. i would love to add this option on mine.
it's an option on JDM Soarers only. i don't think it was ever an option on a USDM SC. the one in the picture is in australia and they just changed the badges to Lexus ones i'm guessing.
I agree, it's not the most attractive thing, but it sure would be nice to have for functionality.
I'm not a fan of the roof spoilers on the SC, at least not when it also has a trunk spoiler, but I wonder if you could use one of those to conceal a top mounted wiper arm, like the old Scout windshield wipers? It wouldn't get quite as much coverage due to the bottom of the glass being wider than the top, but it's mostly the central portion that's important for a clear view.
Well, I'm searching for ways of mounting a rear wiper without replacing or destroying the glass, and I ran across a suggestion that using Rain-X on the rear window is often preferable to a wiper. Why did I never think of trying that? I never use it on the front windshield because it's all or nothing. It's great for exclusively highway driving but useless at lower speeds around town, and as soon as you use the wipers in that scenario, the Rain-X is wiped away.
I ran rainX on my dropped ranger with no wipers, applied it on the glass every two weeks or so and never had a problem. looking back no wipers is a terrible Idea, but so is a slammed ranger.
I clay-bar all of my exterior glass every two months. Water beads up on all of my glass to the point where I barely need my wipers. I used to use aquapel applied every 9 months which I liked, but I had trouble removing the excess when I applied it.
Here's a picture of the beading, this was mostly me just shooting the roof, but you can see the sunroof at the top left of the photo it was also beaded up. Very little water stays on my side windows, rear window, or front window because the beads just slough off.
never thought of using claybar on glass!!, I am going to do this for sure!!
Me neither. If it lasts two months, that makes it basically doubey as effective as RainX. Sure seems worth a shot. I find the side mirrors on my SC are always tough to see clearly when it's been raining, as far as backing down my driveway. Once moving, they clear up pretty well, but it would be nice if I could get the water to bead up and run off on its own with a clay bar.
