has anyone factored in the adaptive fuel mapping that these cars do? if you've been driving conservatively for like 6 months and then decide to gun it for one tank, you're still gonna fair out a lot better than someone who has been hauling everywhere for a while and then decides to drive light to see what kinda MPG hes gonna get for one tank

i still havent figured out what mine is but i just reset the ECU and i swear i could literally see the guage drop on the interstate at 110

i have been looking at this for sometime...the lowest i see is 250 a tank...but its probably close to 300 since people have about 40 to 50 miles more once the light comes on...i know i can pull 500 miles to a tank keeping it in the 80 mph range all freeway...i normally get 400+ miles on tank.....make sure that you fill the tank to the top...not just when the valve closes on the handle...and make sure you go down to your last gallon when you are trying to see what you can max out at....now i dont advise you go down that low on a regular basis, because of all the crap that's in the bottom of the tank...but to really test your mileage..you need to go further. when i fill up i usually have to put 19.4 gallons of gas in the tank...I know that the tank capacity is 20.6. good luck with the additives..hehe

Yeah and good luck keeping your car healthy and getting accurate MPG readings with that sort of advice. Continuing to pump gas after the nozzle shuts off risks flooding your vapor recovery charcoal cannister and increases the chance of spills. Running the tank low not only may suck up debris, but the fuel pump needs gas to keep cool.

And I'm not singling anyone out here, but why this forum is so full of those insipid "I get XXX miles per tank" is beyond me- there are so many variables that comparisons are impossible.

What matters is MPG. If you want to post something meaningful, make a note of it next time you fill up. For those of you who flunked math, MPG equals:

Mileage since last fill up ...divided by...
Number of gallons purchased

I`m getting 22.48 mpg on my last run. I`m running with Mobil premium. I agree with perry, you guys can check your mileage at any time by just refilling the tank NORMALY, devide the amount of miles you went by the gallons you put in and there you go. Your MPG. You will harm your fuel pump by letting the tank get too low, not to mention your fuel gauge may not be perfect, and you run out of gas in a bad place. By the way my SC400 has 149,000 miles and bone stock. Most of my miles are on the 405 Fwy in So. Cal.

Default No one is going to believe this

In normal driving, I get 21.5 mpg. But about a month ago, I took the longest road trip ever since I had the Lex. It was a 4 hour drive one way. On that trip, I averaged an unbelievable 27.7 mpg!

With every fuel up, I zero the trip gauge so I know how many miles I will get from the fuel up. I take number, and divide by the number of gallons I just put in. Simple, accurate math.

I attribute the high mpg to five things:
1) My Lex is in excellent condition, with only 47,000 original miles.
2) Did a BFI mod to the intake six months ago. That gave me incredible gains for less than $10.
3) I drive with cruise control at 57 mph, which was 95% highway miles.
4) I added a bottle of STP injector cleaners at fuel up. It cost $1.87 at Walmart.
5) I change the air filter every 3 months. If not, then fuel economy takes a huge loss down to about 18 mpg normal driving.

I don't get why everyone keeps harping over how many miles they can drive on a tank. Most important and consistent way of measuring is MPG. So enough of how I got 400 miles, I got this many miles. Post up your MPG.

With that being said, I just got 18.15mpg (mostly city, but never pounding on the gas pedal). I find this really pathetic considering I drive a SC3. I should have just gotten the SC4 if I knew the mpg on a inline 6 was this bad.

Lexus doesn't care about fuel efficiency?

It's a heavy luxury car, running around through city traffic doesn't make it feel good.

I think i need to work on the way i accelerate my SC300, I've had it three months now with a 143,000 miles on it the best mileage ive gotten from a tank has been 310 (I dont have much cash right now so I was forced to use 87 octane, however seeing how this was a company car at my Dad's buisness prior to being my daiyly driver i don't think its ever seen a drop of Premium, I assure you that will change.)

For those are looking to increase mpg, I highly suggest the BFI mod. I recently posted my experience with the DIY and have seen positive results. I noticed...

1) more torque down low
2) deeper bartone exhaust sound plus a grunt from the intake
3) most important, improve on mpg

I've been getting low 18's mpg with granny like driving-style before the BFI. With the recent mod, I hard accelerate and I'm getting mid-19mpg now. I'm sure the new clean air filter might have helped too. But worth a try...

Must get round to doing that BFI, if not only for the fuel savings alone!

I am consistantly getting 26-32 mpg still. I got in a convoy of trucks from Fayetteville to Memphis and got 37. No AC, with the windows up.
