Because I was at Bodie and saw the night sky really for the 1st time I went back to the top of Sonora Pass, Sierra Nevada and photographed this.
This is what the night sky and Milky Way look like at 10,000 ft

Milky Way taken at Sonora Pass Sierra Nevada's California by Coast, on Flickr
Joe (I'm also Coast)...get it. ha ha
Beautiful starry night shot, Joe!! Camera geek question time: What camera and lens did you use to capture it? Any time I'm out in the desert I'll have a couple of my 35mm film SLRs (mostly for daytime or dusk shots), a digital SLR camera and a tripod with me.

Thanks Kahn, I appreciate your interest
first I'll start w my long time motto: ((Keep it simple and travel lite). I only have 2 cameras and 3 lenses...a short, a medium, and a long. A Sony a6000 and a Sony a6500 mirrorless cameras. They are the most compact, lite weight ones, that give the quality pictures you see. Carrying a lot of stuff around doesn't work for me.
The short lens Is a Rokinon 12mm f.2 Ultra Wide, extremely sharp prime lens (non zoom, fixed). The medium is a Zeiss 16-70mm zoom, basically my "walk-around lens". The long is a great Sony G, 70-350mm tele-zoom.

The link you posted is from my flickr acct, which I have close to 5000 photos in. If you click on the link you can scroll down a little and you will see the photo title and description and next to it, usually camera and lens descriptions. I hope you click on the photos side arrows which just take you to the next photo. I think some are better than the one you see. You can also do that w the Road to Perdition photo and see all the Bodie Ghost Town photos.

Took this one w the tele zoom and tripod

anyone want advice in taking the best photos of their SC, feel free to contact

Hi from the east coast. Glad you're still taking fantastic photos Barbary. I'm still kicking and the big C hasn't got me yet. Old blue is still up on the jackstands as a work in progress. Dang pandemic messed everything up. Bought an IS 250 to play with in the meantime. That might have been a mistake as the car is requiring me to fix a few things that were neglected by previous owner. Be watching for your posts, mi amigo.

Wow, just saw this thread. I love Bodie. Been there several times both as a child and as an adult. Haven't driven the SC there but did snap a nice picture of my Avalanche there.
