Not all weapon-r products are poor. I think their ECU for the SC400 is great product at great price.
Weapon-R ECU for SC400 = programmed Unischip.
Unichip costs just about 600-700. Installation is 200. Programming is dynotime+ labor
If you contact authorized Unichip dealer and try to have one installed and tuned they will ask you for just about $2,000 and that was price from 2 different unichip dealers. I think weapon-r sells this unit for $900 pre programmed.
As for their Air intake. A friend of mine bought it for his turbo eclipse. after about 2 days the foam filter element got dislodged somehow and got sucked ito his turbine. $700 turbo went bye bye.
I would agree with Ikon. make your own.
But since you already have the piping. Take the piping and get a KnN cone filter for it. You won't regret it. DON'T install that Dragon filter.
disclaimer: I do not own any products mentioned above or have personally used. But have seen some of the in operation and make no claims to performance gains. Not affiliated to any of the companies or persons mentione above.
visually examined in person : weapon-r intake, KnN filter, standard unichip
seen in photo : injen intake, Ikon's homemade intake
know by hearing and dyno graph only: weapon R ECU.

I read a comparison (I think on the Soarer site) and they said that K&N filters don't filter all that well. Lots of garbage got through the filter on the test. I think the study was done in Japan on a Skyline GTR. What other options there are?

I think as long as you keep them well oilned I think they filter pretty well....
I had it on my DSM and after 10,000 miles I took the intake pipe off to clean but it was pretty clean. Not clean like my Lexus intake pipe when I took it off after 30,000 miles. But clean enough.
Most of these high-flow intakes filters let alot more garbage through than stock....

BTW VSsc400 I have the WR ECU going in hopefully this weekend. I'll let you know some first hand results. The numbers I've seen posted are pretty impressive. Fingers crossed

I'm having my S-AFC insatlled next weekend when my intake, heat shield and exhaust is inatlled.
I'll try to post dyno results. This would be a great comparison between the WR ECU and S-AFC. I know the WR ECU will have advantages since it can also control timing..... but lets see what goes.

I think it also controls shift points, the rpm limiter and top speed limiter. Pretty cool. I've heard people talk about the S-AFC. What exactly does it or can it do?

you are correct with regards to WR ECU.
S-AFC is nothing more than Air/Fuel ratio controller.
It will modify MAF signals to make you car run leaner/richer
I'm also intalling a Greddy electronic 60mm Peak/Hold EGT gauge so just in case I lean out too much I'll know before its too late. WR-ECU does alot more than a S-AFC.
The reason why I'm going with the setup that I am is the following.
DIY BFI with Cold box and single exhaust alone gave the car 15RWHP. S-AFC alone gave people 20RWHP. so with the combination I'm looking to get 25-35RWHP. and 30-40 RWTQ gains. WR-ECU with intake and cold box gives you something like 38RWHP and 50TQ if I remember correctly... and yes.. no speed limiter. It will take me a week or 2 for everything to be installed a tuned properly. If I remember I'll post dyno numbers(if i get a chance to go to the dyno) Also the reason for going with S-AFC is I can change the settings at my buddy's shop almot anytime for close to nothing.

A quote from a WR rep
"dude.. i don't think your going to get 50hp from just an intake and ECU upgrade..
we only put down 218 max power.. "
38rwhp is 50hp

That's very interesting since MadMaxSC got his ECU and Leo tuned it those were the numbers on the Dyno. Which rep was that?

that's leo's words in regards to Madmax's car.
anyhow...it really doesn' t matter. I don't mean to judge at all. If people like the product they should just go for it and enjoy it.

The main reason I like my Weapon R ecu is that the "learned" shift points are tossed out and the car works like a normal car,of course the tune is a real bonus as well, lets the car run better with a bfi.
How many times do you get to have the car upshift into second from 1500 rpms in 1st and bog out hard before you either; sell the car; tweak big-time and swap to a manual tranny; or plop down for a piggy back ecu?
The bypass feature is great for any tune-up,smog duties too.
174-stock
218/224(?)-intake,piggy back ecu, minor exhaust enlargement in the "y" pipe area.
I should dyno my car and see where it's at with the ecu,bfi intake and some polishing/streamlining of the intake ports, and airflow meter.
Does anyone know of a reasonable dyno here in the Seatle area?
Maybe to trail along on a group day with a local Miata club or something would be the ticket.
