Here is the setup.
2.5" Ypipe from the front cat. 2.5" mandrel bent pipe to the back. Single 12" long 4"diameter with 3" tip muffler.
Its kinda loud. I need to quiet things down a bit... any ideas?
i don't want to use resonators.....

I would not recommend a silencer because ur car is a V8 and it needs to breath. Civics have small engines that can breath through a straw
and that’s why they can use silencer, but with our cars we need to have unrestricted airflow. So if u just give the car a 1/2 exhaust pipe I think u will most likely burn out the cats and mufflers and cause damage to ur car. But hey that just me

Are you saying you have a single muffler setup on a 400? That might be your problem. Stock has 3 resonators and 2 mufflers- do the math....you might want to add 2 resonators - It'll quiet things down w/o restricting air flow.

Either use a resonator, or replace the terminal muffler with a better one.

I think I may go with just 1 resonator.
I just didn't want it sounding like gutted cat mustang with straight pipe.
Even though this is a single muffler setup it will be much improved than the stock system and save some weight also.

putting a good resonator on it won't make it sound like a gutted mustang
trust me...
don't put a glasspack on the thing and you'll be ok
Dynomax makes a Bullet muffler; and its actually just a resonator... its cheap too like $40 i think
try it out; i know lots of people that have used it and it has taken out the droning in their exhaust

As far as I'm concerned Jbrady is the resident expert on exhaust setup for the 1uz-fe engine. He's input a lot in the LS forums on the subject. You might want to search around in the LS forums for exhaust info.
Also Peter Scott over in AU has a ton of info on exhaust setups on his site www.planetsoarer.com.

I know Resonators cut down the noise ?? but what does it do ?? and does it cut into you HP gain of your system ? When I hear paople talking about resonators, they are saying if you take them off because they will gain a few more HP..... same with Cats...............
Any info would help.....
Thanx

Be careful not to use a muffler(s) with a smaller cross section than the oem pipes/mufflers.
I couldn't find many that were the size I wanted both inside, and outside,so I left it alone.

asnatlas - resonators come in two styles - striaght through and chambered ( i think)
Straight through will quiet it down, samewith a chambered, but the straight through will be louder.
The resonators on the SC (and maybe the mufflers) are straight through type.
