Thinking of buying cheap sc300
#16
I have a "3 of 4" rule when making a car purchase. It must have at least 3 of the 4 areas in good/great condition in order to purchase it.
Exterior
Interior
Engine/Transmission
Suspension/Undercarriage Rust
If three out four of these are good I say go for it. If it's just the interior, that's no big deal even though I would imagine anyone who takes care of their car like that doesn't take care of anything else either.

I would avoid that car even if they gave it to you.....
Fixing the interiors of the SCs are under estimated in cost and time. As others have said, if you plan on racing it the interior does not matter. If this will be a daily driver car remember you sit on the inside and would have to live with whatever condition you could afford to get it to....
Patience will pay off if you wait for one in much better shape.... (in my opinion...)

Both my 250,000+ SC's have had similar interiors; both have been two of the most dead-reliable cars I've ever owned. Granted im a Mechanic and have fixed numerous "little" issues myself.
Clean ones are nice, but are getting next to impossible to find up in the North/Northeast (rustbelt) areas.
And when purchasing an SC always check the lower conrtrol arms/busings for wear. Easy way to haggle someone down $1500 or so.

Do NOT cheap out on these cars unless you know about them. Those who cheap out are usually the ones asking millions of questions on what is wrong with their car days-weeks later down the road. Get yourself a good condition one with documented maintenance or receipts you'll thank everyone later.

As others noted, even if the car is cheap you need to consider whether all the time and effort to bring it back is worth while to you. Personally, I looked at a few cheap SCs that had bad paint and interiors and in the end I passed as the time and possible money would not have made them worth it. To each his own.
