I need advice from this forum. I'm looking at two '92 SC300's. One in my town has 115k miles but is in very good shape and has been well maintained by the long time second owner who is probably in his early 50's. Local Lexus dealer printed out maintainance history for me plus owner has reciepts.Price is $6000, but may need timing belt at 120k (are these non interference motors and how important is a timing belt change exactly at 60k)? The second one is over a thousand miles away and is a one owner (dealer has it now so I can't talk to the original owner), has 66k mileage and appears in great shape. Dealer service printout showed two batteries needed in the short life of this car and right after the second one, a road service call....alternater trouble? Asking $9000. What can I expect from these cars. I know parts and service are expensive. Any general advice and tips would be appreciated. I currently have an older Legend that is great but have always liked the SC models and may jump on one of these. Thanks.

get a car fax report for both cars. as for the one thats 1000 miles away, i bought my sc4 from about 1200 miles away so i know what you're dealing with. call a good mechanic that is local to the dealership you're looking to buy it from and have them arrange a buyer's inspection on the car before you buy - tell them about the two new batteries and ask them to check the alternator. this will probably cost you around $75-100 for the inspection. 66k miles is awesome for a 92, but these cars seem to be affected more by age than mileage. 9,000 seems ok as long as there isnt a bad alternator in there.
