Default best year for sc400???

hi, i'm looking into buying an sc400, but i'm curious as to the difference between years? basically i'm wondering what was the best year for the sc400, as far as reliability, performance, lack of bugs, etc..
i've found a few 95-96s that are in my price range, most newer ones are a bit too high for me. are there any changes from the pre-95 models as there are in the ls400s? thanks for your help.

1st year is always the best. love charm of a 1st gen car. now that's just a purely opinionated response. i rather enjoy not having the passenger side airbag and having a smooth dash across the pass side. if i want the new wheels, i can have them. By owning a 1st year car i have the option to do anything i want to make it look as i please, and still have.... the first one

Jason,

I have two, a 96 (for sale) and a 99 (new to me last week). If you're into performance then I suggest a 98+ car. The motor and tranny are a wonderful combination. If you're more of a classic style kind-of-guy then 95/96 cars are better looking and not too shabby performance-wise. Whatever you choose, there's a great chance you'll love it. They're all car-lovers and drivers cars.

Absolutely, I wouldnt have it any other way When I decided I wanted an SC400 I said I want the oldest one possible with absolutely no miles... so I found a 92 a month later with 49K on the clock. Just got lucky. Having the dash smooth all the way from one side to the other looks the best... and as far as reliability is concerned the 92 SC is the second most reliable car of that year (the LS got 100%, SC got 99%) but the SCs in the years following didnt make it that high on the list anymore! Also, a 92 SC restored to perfect show condition (very hard to do) has a market value of 27,000, the years that follow dont because 92 is the first year and has alot of collectible value. If you want an SC, 92 is THE year to get, but theyre all superb cars.

I love all xZZ3x Soarers/SC, but I absolutely love the look of my 93 model Soarer... for some reason it looks the most *unfussy* in terms of body shape... purely beautiful!!

As an old Alfa Romeo hound, I learned that the most collectible and, if restored, most valuable cars are the first and last years of a body style; since I'm a coupe fan, I always lusted after either the '66 GTA Junior or the '74 GTV (fyi, the first year aluminum-bodied GTA racecar is just about priceless) - but I still had a blast with my '73 GTV. I had the chance a few years ago to buy a red '74 from the original owner, immaculate, with under 60K on the clock, but I had just bought a house and was broke - and he only wanted $6 grand! I chose to not go in debt any deeper for a weekend toy.

So the '92 and '00 SC's will probably have the highest value (again, in concours condition) as time passes - meanwhile I'm lovin' my '93 - always a year off, just my luck

I'd say a '98-2000

my personal opinion, I bought a 95 awhile ago and I kinda of wished I splurged a bit and gotten a 98 with the 5spd auto, 40 extra horses, cleaner OEM styling, and with the cool gated shifter

but if you want to mod the car alot- I'd recommend an earlier model SC

I have a 96' Platnium SC400 that has been problem free. I love it and it has 98,000 miles on it now.
The color really gets peoples attention too.
