Default 8 Soarers on a race track

Now this was bags of fun. We had a timed sprint weekend at Phillip Island, Vic Australia. Terrific track with big fast sweepers. The Soarers were so balanced and surprised all with their speed - people were astounded at so many Soarers on the track at once with TV's and leather and going so fast.
It was an absolute blast and I heartily recommend it to all. It is a drug. None of the cars got so much as a sratch - but the fuel economy while racing was 7 mpg !!!! I had a full tank and raced until I had about 2-3 gallons left - then it would cut out during cornering with fuel surge - that ended my day while chasing a new Integra R with slicks.
Some of the twin turbo Soarers had roll cages, race seats and rubber and one with the big wing was pushing over 500 hp at the wheels!
Sheesh!
We will be doing this again for sure. I drove 560 miles cross country to get there - can't wait for the next one. There is a closer track but only 1 Phillip Island!

Nice writeup as always Peter. I always look forward to reading the various interesting articles on your site.

When do us Yankees get to have a track day like this?

Great stuff Peter!

I'm curious - when do you pass the level of "enthusiast" and enter the realm of "cult?"

Peter,
now that you have a CAMS licence, you can buy unleaded AVGAS. It runs at about $1.50 a litre, but the octane is over 110 RON from what I hear. It ain't no 130 Sunoco, but it's not bad! Just need a barrel and a ute. Off road use only. Don't forget, though - higher octane = less ping but also less power.

I used to track my bike. I was booked in for a day at the island until a fool in a taxi wrecked me 3 days before I was supposed to go. One thing I learned was "jerry cans full of fuel are like drugs smuggled into a rehab clinic". Get down there with as many jerries as you can fit in your car... or better yet, a barrel full of AVGAS. Sell it at the track for $5 a litre

I didn't know you could get unleaded Avgas! - I'll keep a look out.

More cornering pics and all the Soarer session times are up - plus a look at street tyres from the MOTOR magazine shootout.

wow- great article peter. I love the cornering shots, comparing body roll from different set ups! very interesting! I bet our stock US models have about as much roll as the air suspension! haha-

Thanks for the entertainment and information-

Thumbs up

Peter, great pics. Looks like you guys had a blast.

One question, would you be willing to ship the VCD internationally? I'd love to see video of our beloved Soarer tearing up the track?

that would be crappy if your car broke while racing, it would make the trip back difficult I am going to my first autocrossing event this weekend, so I am kind of getting involved in the whole track scene.

I would love to get a copy of this too. I would be willing to pay for it. Or, if you send me a copy, I would be willing to put it up on Kazaa and organize for certain download times to share it with everyone.

I'll snail mail the VCD no sweat - too big to upload - it's 750 meg.
I'll include the 600 meg Soarer bits n pieces cd that includes the entire planetsoarer website including all the big movies and photos and stuff like that.
Once we get a couple of copies over there it will be cheaper and quicker to distribute from over there.
No copyright so copy and show all your mates.
So if you want to be first post me $10 bucks (cash or cheque or whatever) and I'll post back both cd's airmail.
Email me
your name
your address
etc
and I'll return email where to send the money and away we go.
cheers

Peter - You have an email.

Everyone else - get the video from Peter if you like, but I plan to distribute it via Kazaa at pre-arranged times when I get the vids. Just letting you know to possibly save some money.
