Default 98+ 1UZ VVTi Intake

I thought I'd go ahead and do write up about my intake adventures.

Last year I bought a 1998 SC400 to finally replace my beloved 93 that I had for over 12 years. I have been wanting to Intake on it, but couldn't really find a whole lot of information about what kind of intake the VVTi people were running. I searched the forums, and the web. Maybe I have a short attention span, or maybe there really isn't a whole lot of options, because I couldn't find an Intake for my motor.

I had read a few different sources say that "You can buy GS430 intake, all you have to do it relocate your power steering reservoir." I dont know how many of the people who have said this, have actually have installed a GS430 intake, but it wasnt that simple for me.

This is the kit I bought, HPS intake for the GS430 on eBay for $200.

When I went to install it, the first thing I noticed is that the MAF hole was not big enough. I figured a MAF is a MAF, so I bought one for a GS430, a perfect fit for the hole in the HPS intake, and it plugged right in to my car. Everything looked great, time for a test ride.

Yea... that did not work, It would not rev past 3k RPMs with the GS430 MAF. Time for plan B
I had to cut off the section of intake tube just behind the MAF mount, buy an extra coupler, and cut the stock MAF section out of the factory intake. It was a lot of work, but well worth it. The sound is definitely worth the trouble. This is the final product (yea I put that stupid gold wrap stuff on it)
