i was considering doing the same thing. my friend who has a 94 legend coupe did it, but left his reverse lights clear...and i must admit it looks good, especially with the clear coat on top of it. if i do it, ill paint everything red except for the lower/inner corners, which are my reverse lights. on a white car i think it would look pretty tight

on the side, does anybody know of a good online vendor for the paint/clear coat?

I used to have a 240SX and I did this to it but I did not paint the reverse light. I used a paint called Transparent Candy Apple Red. I got it from a local hobby shop, its a spray paint used for model cars. It came out really good but with time it fadded, so I did it again and then took it to a body shop and had them paint clear on it and it came out perfect. Everyone who looked at it thought it was factory. I also did this to my 92 SC300 tail lights but with a diffrent material. I took the car to a local sticker/vinyl shop and they had some vinyl that was transparent red, the guy put it on my tail lights for about $45 for both and it had the same result. I wish I had some pics but I got the 98 tail lights on my car now. Ether way it is a very inexpensive mod that set your SC apart from the rest.

Those things work pretty good considering they cost $40..I think one can can get you a couple pairs of tail lights painted...My friend painted a prelude tail light with it and it came out very nice..

my advice to you is get it done once and get it done right.

On my accord, i painted my clear taillights to get the red/white look but then it started to fade with that Candy apple red hobby paint. It doesnt come out as nice as you think it would either. But then i took my tailights to a body shop and it came out looking BETTER than stock. it was a perfect deeeeeeep glossy red.

i suggest you pay the money and get it done once and right. you wont regret it.

i went to a body shop, they candy coated my taillights with car candy paint. They sanded, prepped, and masked off the taillights to how i wanted them to be painted and they did it. I only had to wait 1 day and paid $80. I gave them a set of clear taillights to work with and it came out perfect.

i went to bodypros here in orange county in So Cali.
