Damn, she's been through a lot, any problems with it other than those opaque headlights?

What a beauty, as tfwnoturbo said, any history you got for it and what's it been through?

it's had a low idle for several years (a good friend of mine owned this car back in 2011). it idles at about 350rpms but is perfectly smooth. i am not sure at the moment how to raise the idle up (98+ DBW throttle) anyone know? my other 99 cars did not have this problem.

it leaks oil pretty badly from the cam seals and front main seal, and it has (i think) a broken front passenger shock mount. there is a pretty bad clunk on suspension movement and when turning the wheel.

i am going to put a soarer 1jz VVTI in the car (and use the soarer auto trans for the moment) so i am not concerned with the engine issues (how ever minor). this engine is so high mileage that i want to see it keep going!

I say just fix the oil leaks and run her for another 100K miles, or until she quits lol. Yeah I think it is time to pull that motor. Good luck with the project.

98+ doesn't have dbw system, traditional throttle cable from the pedal to he tb.
Also I tightened the throttle cable up so there is no slack you.
See where the cable comes out of its sleeve, that's where I made my asjustments
401k is awesome. In expecting that and more from both of my rides

That's a ton of miles! Go Toyota!

My 98 SC300 had a DBW system. The APPS sensor was expensive to replace when it went bad.

hi lexxium. you're incorrect.
while there is a traditional throttle cable running from the pedal to the APPS on the back of the throttle body, a large stepper motor on the front of the throttle body that actually moves the butterflies in response to what the ECU sees from the APPS sensor.
feel free to take off your intake pipe with the APPS unplugged and see if your butterflies move when you move the pedal.

thanks kahn. i'll be making a build thread shortly. i bought the TT AGXs/eibachs a guy was selling here on the forum (also had them on ebay), so i am looking forward to that.

i cleaned this POS all day long. it was owned for a year by a chain smoker, so it stinks. it's getting there.

and i'll be ordering my used/jdm soarer 1jz VVTI / autotrans tomorrow!

Thanks for the correction Cartmill!! Based on my driving experience between the the car that has the dbw system and the ones that don't, my both scs don't feel like they have that system I'll be honest.
I dove cars with dbw and it felt like the throttle was lagging to some point before the car gets moving, it's a different feeling, but I'm glad I don't feel it in my both scs I guess it's that good
