ebay (lower mileage 150k) or local (high mileage 270k)
Hi All,
I know I have asked a few of these questions in the past and I apologize in advance.
I found a 98 SCc400 with 270k miles some what close to me for $2500. I have not checked out the car yet but the pictures looks ok to.
I also found a 99 SC400 with 150k on ebay starting bid is $5k and if I go through this, I will be purchasing without test driving or seeing it. The seller seems to be good as I exchanged emails with him a few times already.
I wanted to see if you guys think 270k is too much.
I am looking for the SC400 as a daily driver and leave my 4runner as the weekend car.
I may be commuting close to 100miles per day in the future if I switch jobs but for now, my commute is more like 20 miles per day.
What do you guys think? Go with the local one because I can see it or the ebay because of less miles.
I am not sure if 270k should scare me off.
Thanks in advance.

Get a used vehicle inspection.....
A. Have seller to take car to dealer or reputable shop that you pick and you speak with service manager and tell them you want a used vehicle inspection/pre buy report. And that you're paying, & to only send you the report if you choose to.
B. Have a mobile inspection company come out & do inspection and send pix. They should only send detail report to you to look at first to.
C. Like it did.. Strike a deal/bid use escrow.com with a 3 day inspection after delivery clause to seller and if the car is NOT as described he pays to get his car shipped back. That way both parties lose a lil vs you losing big time!!!
Good luck...

I bought a car sight unseen once and it turned out great, but it was my 2nd vehicle and I wasn't too worried about reliability with commuting.
I think I would lean toward the local '98 for half the cost (or less, depending on how high the ebay bid goes). With your commute, you'll quickly rack up a ton of mileage, so you might as well go for the one that's cheaper because it's already high mileage. The pending wear items (bushings, tranny mount, spark plugs, etc.) at 150k and 270k likely aren't all that much different, and both should get a tune-up done if you don't have reason to believe they've recently been serviced.

As long as proper up keep has been done to the car 270k.is nothing on a 1uz. I have 235k on mine & it runs as well as it did when it was new. When buying any car you always want to check them out thoroughly befor purchasing & make sure it hasn'nt been beat! I've driven mine 120 miles a day for 5 yrs & it's never missed a beat & I'm quite sure I'll be able to get it to 500k miles. Just have to maintain it.
