hello,
i'm trying to figure out what mark on the harmonic pulley is considered TDC (total dead center) so that i can safely remove the belt and mark it.
it has two markings one painted dot timed at zero, and a groove to the left also painted white.
i need to know if i could simply mark the belt at the timing i found it at (white dot at zero)
or dose the grove need to be moved to zero than marked and once replaced move it back to the original spot (white dot at zero)?
you're supposed to have the notch at 0 and make sure the cams are on their timing marks as well, if they're not then turn it another time around and they should all line up.
thanks replying, now when you say notch do you mean the white line in the picture or the white dot?
also do you know what the cam markings look like i tried looking online but i could not find alot of information on my model.
pretty sure it's the notch, the dot looks like someone else did that. google the Lexls tutorial for changing the timing belt, it will tell you everything
It's the notch on the back of the pulley, the "white line" in your pic. Also of note, you can check your timing before you put it all back together (with the balancer on the crank). Without the black cover there, your actual timing gear with have a notch on it that lines up with a tiny mark that is cast into the oil pump.
The little white dot on the picture below is that mark, you can see the notch on the timing pulley as well lined up to it. Disregard the arrow in the pic.
