It's at most 30% see-through when it has a dark backdrop like the ducting. Probably more like 10-20%.

Possible idea coming in. What about putting a thin material over top of the mesh. Would still have that clean look but would hide the little bit of ducting that you can see. Plus you could choose different color options that best fit the interior without having to paint. Would also act as a half-a$$ filter for any particles that may come through

It could work. Speaker fabric might let enough air pass through to still work as a vent. I imagine it would be harder to assemble, though, as you'd have to figure out some way to keep the fabric solid against the metal mesh while shaping and attaching it.

Could use some spray adhesive right on it. I'm speaking just from my head as I have never taken the vents out. I love the look though, so I will be doing this in the future.

You would want to make sure it can handle the temperature range. I've never had great luck with spray adhesives, but then I suck at rattle can paint jobs, so maybe it's just anything aerosol that doesn't agree with me.

Long-term road test update: still no issue with debris clogging the mesh sans cabin filter, and no deformation of the mesh.
