SC300/SC400 OEM Subwoofer Question
Hi All,
I hope someone can chime in. But are the SC300 OEM subwoofers similar to SC400's OEM. I have a 1997 and posted earlier on SC's classified to look for a sub.
Main question is: are they as simple as a plug and play or will there be an incompatibility issue?

Nakamichi systems have a 5 ohm 10" sub. Pioneer systems with a CD changer have a 1 ohm 10" sub. Pioneer systems without a CD changer have a 2 ohm 8" sub.
The cutouts should be the same, but the factory amps are different (well, the Pioneer amp might actually be the same between the two different Pioneer systems, I haven't double checked; I have the Nakamichi system.) While you can swap OEM subs, physically, if you stay with the factory amp you can run in to either an underpowered sub (like 15 watts if you put the Nakamichi sub in to a Pioneer system) or a over-stressed amp that won't last long and won't sound good at all as it clips fairly quickly.

Ok so?
Ok... cool you guys.
Since I have my OEM head unit in So. Cal. (I'm in Nor. Cal. ... 6 hrs away). How can I tell that I either have the Nakamichi or Pioneer? I did/do still have the 6 CD changer in the back but had it disconnected since there's no need for it at this time. Hope this small info. helps. Again, I have a 1997 SC300.

If you pull the trunk liner out under the back window, you can look up underneath the rear deck and see the sub. The Pioneer subs have a semi bronze colored stamped steel basket, the Nakamichi subs are a composite material resembling black plastic. You could also look under the magnet and it should say either Pioneer or Nakamichi.
